Is it at all possible to find a decent bra in size DD without it being hideous or of poor quality. I have tried Victoria's Secret and their cute bras only go up to a certain size. Also, their bras never seem to have enough support. Where do you girls go to find "plus-sized" bras?
I find bra shopping to be a singularly frustrating experience. I'm a DDD cup. I also prefer black bras without underwire. That severely limits my choices in an already limited pool. I do like Playtex bras. They fit and support well. Whenever I find black bras, I snatch them up. I like the Support Can Be Beautiful Line. I used to be able to get them at the big department stores like Macy's. Now, I can only find them at JC Penney's and sometimes Sears.
Surprisingly I like Targets bras. I just bought one there recently in my size (42DD) that was comfy and under $20! I was larger at one point and then I ordered a bra from Just My Size and actually liked it quite a bit.
Have you tried shopping for bras online. I know it's inconvenient because you can't try it on before you buy and sizing varies per manufacturer. But sometimes it's worth the inconvenience when you can't find what you're looking for on the street. Here are a few online retailers that sell DD sized bras: 1.Log In 2.Log In: Lingerie, Swimwear, and Nightwear for D-L Cup Women 3.Log In: D-K Cup 4.Log In: C- H cup sizes Hope this helps some.
My sister is a DD too. She buys her bras from LaneBryant.com, Avenue.com or AshleyStewart.com. All of these places cater to plus size gals and have pretty bras. I hope this helps you out.
I know that many women like Voctoria's Secret, but for me if I wear the bras comfortable, I don't care its brands.Log In
La Senza has good bras and they're pretty cute too! Probably even cuter than Victoria Secret. And they're less expensive as well. I love shopping at that store.
I definitely needed these sites. I have to say most of my bras, come from Lane Bryant or Catherine's. It is sad that big breasted women are so hard to find something that is cute, comfortable and durable. I hate going bra shopping. I think one day I am going to go to Georgia and go to the Shop where they do Custom bras(the Show Double Divas are based down there). I have tried seeing if anyone where I am would custom make me bras, but didn't have in luck. I am a 50H, and it hell find bras.
Small breasted women have a similar problem sometimes. I wear a 30B and that size is literally impossible to find. The last bra I bought was at ridiculously expensive Madison Avenue specialty store. It was a 32B and I had to have it tailored to be 30B... and 32B is already a difficult enough size to find. Most retailers will carry 32A or 34B but not 32B, and certainly not 30-anything.
Haha. I do agree that people with smaller breast have that issue as well. I would also recommend to check out some higher end store brands because they usually sell their bras in bundles which makes the price even out. I wold recommend going to stores like Bloomingdales and Nordstrom. The people who work there will even measure you and order the size you need if they don't have it in stock.
I have never shopped online for bras because I am never sure of the fit. I always try my bras before I buy them. I am a 36 D and locally it is really difficult to find them. I have to bribe sales girls to give me a call when they have my favorite brands available in that size. I generally stock up on my bras when I find them. I love lacy stuff.. b ut make do with what I can get provided it fits me well. Thanks for providing all those links I might try a couple of those.
Have you seen that reality TV show, Double Divas? You should look around to see if there is someone in your area that specializes in bra fitting. I have found bras everywhere from Big Lots to Walmart to Steinmart and department stores. You just have to check around to see what they have. You could also try making friends with the sales people and asking them to let you know when they get stuff in the store in your size. I've known people who have been successful with that. Maddie, I have a similar issue. If you lose or gain weight even your favorite bra won't fit right - and we women see fluctuations at least once per month.
Yes, it is possible to find a good bra of that size, but I would worry about buying budget products because the truth is that you get what you pay for. It is much better, in my opinion, to pay more for something that is going to support you better and last longer. It is like an investment. If you buy cheap, then you're only going to need to replace things more often, so you will probably end up paying the same amount in the long term as you would have done if you'd just bought the expensive one in the first place.
It's funny that this thread popped up because I have been bra shopping. I have dropped a couple of sizes but I am still having a hard time finding bras. I hate to shop online but that seems to be the online avenue left for me. I ordered a couple from Amazon on Monday. I surely hope they fit.
To echo what someone else said I think it would be a good idea to see if there is a bra specialist in your area who can help properly fit you for a bra. I'm thinking a good place to start would be a plus size store like Lane Bryant and ask if they have someone on staff who can assist you with that. It must be frustrating to have to deal with this, I'm surprised that they don't have more options online.
My old friend Lisa, who was a DD and anywhere from 38-42 inches in the bustline said OLGA was the ultimate in bras for women with a little extra on top. She added that anytime a person can take advantage of a sale at Macy's or one of the discount (Marshall's, Ross) stores, they should snatch up as many as possible because the bras are worth the investment. Not only do they last a long time but also provide support and comfort. When I first gained a lot of weight, I went with Lane Bryant and similar stores and found that those bras lasted a year or two. And these were left to hang-dry but the support was pretty much history after a few washes. Speaking from personal experience, I would say that Warner's is a close second.
With bras like that you will probably have to order it online. I'm a 36D and it's SO hard to find cute or comfy bras in the store. You can probably get it at the store's online website, but I wouldn't waste your time looking in store unless you have a lot of time.
I don't know if these brands are available in your region but there are several DD-sized bra selections under Wacoal and Soen. If you can't find these brands in your local department stores then perhaps you can try ordering through online stores. It's going to be a risk, though. Should your first order be successful then you'll know what to do next.
