    BEWARE!!!

If you are interested in buying collectible coins, either as a hobby or as an investment, PLEASE do not pay attention to the collectible coin shows on satellite television. In my experience, at least 95% of those shows are promoting coins that are available at considerably lower prices elsewhere. Some of the coins promoted are not even collectible coins. One of the advertisements I saw recently promoted an American Bison tribute coin that was supposedly 14 karat gold. What they only tell you in the fine print is that the coin is only dipped in 14 karat gold. The core of the coin (98% of it or more) is copper or bronze with nickel.

If you are looking to invest in collectible coins, I would recommend finding a reputable coin shop in your area who can help you. Look for someone who is a member of one of the major coin grading services. Those services include Professional Coin Grading Service and the American Numismatic Association.
