So today my mom went to the thrift store to buy a lamp and also came home with some house shoes. My brother took a closer look at the shoes and noticed that the shoes have buttons on them. Turns out they are vibrating house shoes. Who ever thought of making such a thing to sell?

It is nice to find such treasures in the goodwill stores when you are not looking for them. I call it treasure hunting, you never know what you will find. A few years ago I received for Christmas a pair of house shoes that vibrate, I love them and I am a little sad that they are wearing out. They do an excellent job of keeping my feet warm.

I've found a lot of treasures at rift stores and surplus shops as well, but honestly not nearly as odd and cool as vibrating shoes. The best finds I've gotten are mostly just good deals or slightly cool and useful items like low priced electronics or new technology that I've never heard of before but is somehow being sold for very cheap at a surplus shop. I think it's a great way to not only find cheap goods but also to discover lots of new things you otherwise would have never come across.

You'll be surprised to see some of the gems you can pick up from thrift shops! It's a shame that I don't always make the time to go into them. One memorable gem I found a few years ago, which I'll have for years to come, is my genuine Italian leather satchel! I just couldn't believe it when I saw it, and I got it for a cool £5.

vibrating house shoes sound really neat. I once found a leather purse at a rummage sale for 25 cents. It lasted forever. I am trying to think of the best finds I have found...hmmm, I think low priced clothing and shoes would be the best. I haven't bought any major furniture items recently from the thrift store.

I think anything made with quality leather will last forever. Just because you don't know what you will find is what makes the shopping exciting. Maybe all you do is window shop and watch others shoo for things you wouldn't think to.

:oops:Thrift stores are one of my favorites to shop at. I find jeans that are so inexpensive and in good quality like Lee Jeans for such a low price. I find good quality blouses and home wear that no one knows you bought at a thrift shop too!:) I love to see what kind of purses they have the day I go window shopping hoping to find great bargains at thrift shop.

Thrift store shopping is so cool that there's even a song about it. ;) I know that my mom and I go to thrift stores all of the time. There's a lot of them in my hometown. I always see really nice stuff in there and even brand new looking furniture that someone wants to sell for really awesome prices. The home goods are the best at the thrift store because if you go anywhere else, you'll be paying a fortune. I found two, probably about 2 and a half feet tall, pictures with the African theme that are simply gorgeous. I think I paid $10 - $15 for those two huge pictures that were in excellent quality. I also run a Poshmark shop and I go thrift shopping for fashion treasures to resell. Thrift stores are one of the BEST places to collect fashion at!

Jeans and purses or bags are some of the best deals, if you ask me. These days, the jeans the kids like never look like "new" jeans anyway, so who's going to know the difference?

I got a nice purse a couple of months ago when they had all the purses marked down to 25 cents to thin them out. I love it. I got a brand new backpack for my daughter for $2.00. It's nicer than the flimsy ones at Walmart that cost $15.00.

I don't know about vibrating house shoes, but I want a pair of these

Now that's something else...never heard of such a beast. A long time ago, I found a Liz Claiborne bag (clean) for less than $5...and this was back when there were LC/Elisabeth and finer stores were carrying the name brand (pre-JCPenney). Back then (the 1980s) small purses sold for nearly $50.

That's funny, because I was just looking at a site (I don't recall which one) and saw some slippers like that. I have a lot of foot issues, and am always looking for comfortable products/shoes/slippers for them. I also tend to buy things like that for my mom and a diabetic friend. My dream is to eventually buy one of those massaging recliners (the really high end ones) that has calf massagers. I worked at a medical practice/physical rehab center before and loved using that! I sure won't find one of those at a thrift shop, but they have plenty of interesting little deals to make them worth visiting.

Haha! That's really funny and interesting! I love that you can find stuff like that at the thrift stores. I found a really cute key holder at Ross but it was done in the shape of a fence. So it was very unique and adorable for a house. You could also put envelopes and papers in there too. You just have to take the time to look through all the stuff they have at the stores and you can find awesome things. The thrift store in my hometown had so many knick knacks that were random that you had to go through them all to find something you liked. I love when there's a variety to choose from instead of just the same things.

I don't visit thrift shores very often, but I try to do it at least once a year precisely with the sole intention of going on treasure hunting time, but mainly focusing on household/decor items.

Even though I may fall in love with clothing, shoes or whatever else because, well said, one never knows what is going to find, but will make us happy :)

The problem I have with thrift stores is that I spend too much money in them. I go in with an item I want to buy in mind and come out with a whole cart full of goodies because everything in them is so cheap. It is a vicious cycle I tell ya! In all honesty though, thrift shopping is fun because it really is a treasure hunt and you never know what you will find once you step inside.

I love finding unexpected treasures at thrift stores. Once I found the brand new video game The Sims 3 for PC at Goodwill for less than a quarter of the price it would have been at the retailer. Another time I found an entire outfit with the tags still on it from Target for a younger sibling. Often I will find trendy jewelry still in the package for $1-$2. Every day is a new adventure, you never know what you will find!

I have found all manner of great stuff at thrift stores. Obviously clothing, but other stuff too that would otherwise be pricey. Small pieces of furniture you can get for a steal. I once saw a pair of brand-new looking rollerblades for like 10 or 20 dollars! Talk about a great ROI in entertainment and/or travel value.

I would also say clothing is a steal here. Fullfillment by Amazon and eBay combined with thrift store runs can prove to be profitable.

    Thanks for reading! :)

I just bopped into my local thriftstore today. I got a nice name brand teakettle priced at 3.99 and a mug for .59. I wanted a blue tea kettle I saw in there last week but it was gone. I had a 20 percent off coupon from making donations so both items cost me less than 4.00. I rounded up the purchase and gave the change back to the store, but I was quite pleased with my purchases.

I worked at a thrift store one summer, and you would be amazed at some of the things you can find there, especially when it comes to items such as old luggage. Many times, while stocking or moving the "merchandise" around, we would find hidden stashes of money in them - suitcases seemed to be a popular hiding spot for some reason. Of course we would also find other hidden things, such as someone's stash of porn magazines, lol. It's certainly worth inspecting some of the items there more closely while you are browsing around.

I'm not sure if all thrift stores operate this way, but something else to keep an eye out for is if they progressively lower their prices on items the longer they remain on the shelves/racks. The one I worked at did, and every item had color coded tags on it to indicate which items were to be lowered in price. Granted it's already cheap since it's being sold at a thrift store to begin with, but if it's a more expensive item and you're looking to save a few bucks, if you come back a few days later the price will probably be even lower.

Oh YAY vibrating shoes! You are so lucky, I never thought of getting something like that. I am super glad you mentioned it though. I would love some vibrating shoes for sure. I would love to get some for my mom too. My mother went to a thrift store and found a dress for me. It was the best find for me. It looks really cool! It is also in my favorite color black!

Whoa, I didn't even know vibrating shoes existed! I love thrift store shopping though. I always find something interesting! Like, last year I nabbed an amazing Louis Vuitton purse. Its gorgeous and real and I still use it! Thrift stores rock.
