I really, really like discount stores for clothing (as well as other products). Sometimes it seems overwhelming that there are too many in my area but then again it's nice to have choices... We have Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshall's, and Burlington Coat Factory. It seems like I'm forgetting one but those immediately came to mind. We're about to get DD's Discounts. In looking online it looks like another store like the rest of them. I like the ones above, though I think TJ Maxx and Burlington Coat Factory are slightly more upscale and better for looking for work clothing. What do you have in your area?
In my town itself, discount would mean Deja Vous, the fashion consignment store which is an incredible place to find really good clothes for not much, also Goodwill, which is a slightly lower quality version of the same. There is also BiMart which has some clothing, but not much. We really don't have much else in town besides the upscale shops downtown that cater to the tourists and rich people. All the discount stores are a half hour drive away, so I don't really bother with going, I just buy used clothes as they are cheaper even than the discount stores would be.
We really don't have something like this in our area. Instead there would actually be bazaar wherein there would be a lot of stores altogether offering discounted prices for their products. It's the bazaar that actually make them come together and make them offer discounts with their products. I have not seen yet, an individual shop would set up a place for itself. I know that it happens often though, but not in our place.
I am a regular shoppers at discount stores like TJMaxx, Marshalls Mall, and Burlington Coats Factory. I haven't shop at any department stores for years now as I found what I need at discount stores for half the price. These past few years, I have added Thrift Stores as the number place on my list of stores to shop. Dollar Store is also a frequent place for me, but their product quality isn't there. I found that my dollar spent is wasted in less than 30 minutes afterward especially for children's toys; their cleaning supplies are worth it though.
We have a few semi generic surplus shops where we can shop for imported surplus goods. Often times the packaging would be a little bit damaged or there might be a few imperfections in the product itself but most of the time you can find something that's in good condition too and it makes the trip really worth it when you do find something good and cheap.
I usually do my discount shopping at Marshalls, since they tend to have a good variety of things there. I can actually find things that fit, so that's a plus. I have a male friend who shops there pretty often. He's found quite a few things in his size, which is like a 3x or 4x. He usually has to buy things from the Big and Tall store, so being able to find something his size at half the price is a blessing.
Instead of discount stores, what we have in our area are shops that sell export overruns or 99 stores where a variety of items can be bought for only 99 if not as near to that price as possible. Another variant is the surplus store which mostly sells clothes, accessories and footwear.
Sadly, Botswana is quite frankly a rip off country where you never get discount anything. I'm not slagging off my country, just being very blunt. It's very highly commercialised and because of the very small population (not even 2 million yet), retailers really do take the Michael. But when I'm in England, my favourite discount store is TK Maxx (I believe TJ Maxx in the US?) I could never go a week without passing by! I love that store. I really like that it's also a one-stop shop, you can unearth so many gems there. Almost all my scarves are from TK Maxx (I love scarves!) I truly miss it
TK Maxx is great isn't it! I particularly like the leather bags they stock, in a wide range of colours. You need to have quite a bit of time to spend in a TK Maxx store though. There are so many rails to look through so it can take quite a lot of tie and rummaging before you find something. The quality and the prices make it worth the effort though.
I love it, missbishi! My husband knows when I go, we have to reserve at least two hours hehe. He claims he doesn't like shopping, but I know he's a huge fan of TK Maxx too. When we go, we split up; he goes to the mens and I go to the ladies wear. It's very hard to do a flying visit. Don't get me started on the accessories! I've got quite a few satchels I got from there that I adore
