It all depends on how blocked your drain is. When I am experiencing a problems with my drains, I always first try to get things flowing again with my draining rod. If that fails, I will try some chemical draining compound, provided that I am not connected to a septic tank. And if that still doesn't fix the problem, I will call a plumber. Fortunately, that happens very rarely.
