Going to the movies can cost a pretty penny and not all of us on a tight budget can afford to go other than on very rare occasions even when we want to. How many of us go to the drive in theater to save money or out of preference? I go to the drive in for both reasons. We have a small local drive in that plays the same movies in the theaters but saves on tons of money and provides a very enjoyable night out. I am always surprised by how many people here in Las Vegas don't even seem to know we have a drive in much less that it's been there longer than the nearby local casino's that have movie theaters in them. The drive in here is inexpensive on any night at less than $7 for admission to see a double feature and a special on Tuesdays's for admission that costs less than $5 a person. We can see two movies for about half of what it costs to see just one if we went up the street to see the same featured movies in the theaters. Another plus is that we can bring our own snacks and drinks much cheaper than theater prices and get all comfy and cozy with our blankets or go in our pajamas if we choose.
I haven't been to the movies in ages, but we do have a drive-in here that does TRIPLE features! And it is $7 for the whole shebang. I used to love going to the drive in and really wish they weren't a dying breed To answer your question though,I do the drive in when they have what I want to see, and if I am lucky I actually want to see all three. Additionally, they allow us to save money by buying a permit to bring our own food with us so that is definitely a bonus!
I've only ever been to a drive-in once and it was awesome! It was in San Francisco and I though it was the greatest thing ever. If there were more around where I live I would most definitely opt to go there instead of a theater a lot of the time. I think it's pretty cool to be able to sit in your own car, you can even make and bring your own food. It's pretty cool to be able to eat like a picnic and put the seats down in the back of an SUV.
There are no more drive-ins in my area. I remember going to a drive-in when I was a kid with the family. It was a real treat. We wore out PJs and brought a whole bunch of snacks. We also bought extra blankets because it would get cold in the fall. Even if the movie was bad, we still enjoyed ourselves. I thought drive-ins were all closed down in the United States.
I have never been to a drive in but i would love to go. There was one not to far from where i lived but closed down before i was even born. I'm not to sure if there is any around anymore. There use to be a $1 movie theaters near me awhile back that i would go to all the time it took a couple of months for the new releases to get there but it was well worth the wait when it did you saved a lot. Don't go as much as i use to because of the cost but i would have to look into the drive in and see if there is any near where i live that i don't know about and check it out.
I didn't know drive-in theaters still existed! I'm sure going to one would be an interesting experience, maybe even a blast from the past. However, I'm not old enough to even experience the drive-in nostalgia.
I love going to drive-ins, but there is only one left here in the Indianapolis metro area and it's in a less than desirable part of town. We'll go occasionally, but movie theaters offer greater convenience for my family. Also, the theater that is 2 minutes from my house actually lets you carry in food, which is a big bonus.
It is really sad and disappointing that there are so few drive in movie theaters left. So many people have forgotten about them or don't know there is one near them that with the usually lower ticket prices many of them simply can't survive without the regular movie goers. Drive in movie's really can bring on some of your favorite memories from childhood. It was the first place I tried what is now one of my 'craving foods' which is french fries with salt and drenched in malt vinegar when I was about 4 or 5 years old. We had gone to see the Boogeyman and I was scared so they distracted me with the concession stand. Ours has about 6 screens that all play double features though sometimes for certain movies they run it twice on one screen. Your not really supposed to of course but everybody kind of drives to another screen if they prefer another after the first feature film, they aren't super strict there (hard to miss everyone driving around each other to different screens after the first movies). The Drive in here is usually packed and there is only the one in the whole area but it's still only a small percentage of people who even know it's here with it being Las Vegas and all. My boyfriend spent most of his childhood here, LOVES movies and didn't know there was one so didn't see his first drive in movie until he was 25 years old. We watched Happy Feet 2 (he loves penguins) and the latest Twilight movie (me). There are some $1 and other low price theaters here in Las Vegas as well but the experience can be less than stellar from what I've heard but don't have any personal experience. Are they usually worth the lower ticket prices?
There is only one drive in left in the Baltimore area, and it is very well known and attended by people throughout Maryland because it is the only one. Delaware had one left up until last year and unfortunately the economy forced them to close down too. I miss the days of being able to watch more than one movie for $7, going to the snack stand, and playing on the playground while listening in to the movie by making sure we were close to a speaker.
I don't have a vehicle so unfortunately I can't go to the local drive-in theatre. Also, I don't even think the Greater Toronto Area has any drive-in theatres. I don't plan on owning a car anytime soon so I am destined to go to a local movie theatre for the rest of my life. I have no problem with picture houses, though, except for the price, the endless commercials and annoying moviegoers.
I lived in Las Vegas for a few years and I didn't know about it. That's too bad because I would have loved to visit it just for nostalgia's sake. What area is it located? I lived in Summerlin and North Las Vegas.
