I don't know about other places, but if you use Kentucky Utilities as your electric company, and purchase any Energy Star appliance for your home, you can get a refund through the electric company, anywhere between $50-$300!! You simply fill out a form online, and submit it. The electric company reviews it, prints it out, and sends it to you in the mail. You sign the signature verification, and send it back to them, and 6-8 weeks later they send you a check for the rebate amount.

Also, my husband and I received a tax credit last year for making our home Energy efficient. The money that we would have spent on home repairs anyways payed off more if we got things that were more energy efficient, such as when replacing windows and buying appliances. We kept the receipts, and come tax time, we were glad we'd gone the extra mile to save energy.
