I'm guessing that not many people do this any more. It used to be that mother's would set aside a chest and fill it with things their daughter's would need when they married and moved out. In more modern times, it could be any container, for son or daughter, with a stash of stuff needed to furnish a first dorm, apartment, etc.

Does anyone still do this? Maybe it's not called a hope chest, or maybe it doesn't even have a name, but do parents still stash stuff like towels, bedding, utensils, dishes, pans, small appliances, etc. for their kids to get ready to move out?

I have many friends who do this. I have seen how it is such a blessing too. I have no children, but I think it should never get old because it is such a wise and helpful custom.
