How Safe is it to Order Something like a Chromebook Online if your not from the US?

So I have to buy a computer really soon... But I don't want to deal with Windows 8.
I was looking in Amazon, and I would I do a great deal on a Chromebook!

Normally I would just go to a store to be safe, but the stores here in Portugal don't sell them yet.
Have your ever ordered something like a laptop, and had it shipped by plane across the ocean?

To get something broken, that would suck quite a bit...
