Moles it is wrongly believed are helpful rodents which can suppress grubs in lawns. Those who say so probably don't have gardens and because of that, don't know how destructive moles can be. As they dig their burrows, moles dislodge the roots of crops and sometimes they also eat the roots of some plants. Either way your crops/flowers will dry up.

Question is, how do you permanently get rid of moles if they have become a problem?

Well, you always have the option of having them removed by a medical professional -- which is the safest way. You should always have moles checked if they have changed in size, color or shape because this could indicate cancer. Also, never try to remove hanging moles on your own, moles usually have a very healthy blood supply and not having them removed correctly puts you at risk for heavy bleeding and possibly infection. If it's a small mole however you can opt to try and lighten the pigment by coating it in lemon juice a few times a day for a few weeks.
