In order to encourage people to drive cleaner and more fuel efficient vehicles out government does two things. It offers meager incentives for us to replace our old cars and it punishes us heavily through taxes for driving. I think if the incentives were greater and the punishments less ... well punitive, we would see a lot more fuel efficient cars on the road.

I like that small cars like smart cars have special parking spaces downtown. I like that we have an incentive program to trade in old cars for bus passes or bikes. I hate that not only am I taxed on my gasoline, I also am paying for transit on my gas and my other bills.

Do you see incentives or punishments for drivers from your government to make you want to drive cleaner and cheaper?
