I've grown herbs in the spring/summer on my deck, but I always forget to put them in The House before the first coldspell hits. Do you have experience keeping your herbs alive inside over the cool weather periods? Any tips on trying to keep them alive?

There are indoor kits for growing herbs. They come with plant lights, and some kind of hydroponic base to plan the herbs in. I haven't tried them personally, but I've been thinking about getting one. My main concerns are that from the reviews I've read, some people complained that the unit was rather noisy. Also, they said that the plant pods that you have to purchase to use with it are rather expensive.
