I have a friend who lives alone and he swears that it's cheaper for him to take his clothes out to a laundry service than buy a washer and dryer, not to mention the time and effort he saves.
I checked laundry prices but it seems too expensive to make this viable. Would it be worth it if he gets some discount?

This sounds absurd. How can you possibly save time, and money by going to a laundry service. You have to pack up all your close, and transport them to the business. Then you have to pay $1.25 per load, and $.50 every 10 minutes to dry them. You can go to a local used appliance store, and get a washer, and dryer set for $100. Which is extremely cheaper, and convenient, over a time.

How often does he go to the laundry service anyway? If he only goes there once a month, then it may be right that he saves money doing it. Because washing machines can get expensive, especially the automatic ones, so if he lives alone, then he doesn't need to buy one then.
