I am looking at a set of old kitchen chairs and was thinking they needed replacement. The only thing wrong with them is the foam and Fabric. The chairs are otherwise sturdy. I am now thinking about getting them reupholstered or doing it myself in order to save some money. This seems like either option would be cheaper than buying a half dozen new chairs. It also got me thinking about other pieces of furniture that are in decent shape but could use a little sprucing up.

Have you ever taken in furniture to be reupholstered? Is it a lot cheaper than new items? Would it be a lot cheaper to do it yourself rather than taking the chairs in? (I would point out that the chairs are fairly simple and shouldn't be difficult to do as oppose to more intricate pieces)
