Most people whether they want to or not gain weight. Pants you'd previously worn might not fit that well anymore. Would that mean you get the pants resized by a tailor or buy new ones?

You don't need to. At least not immediately. You can make the pants fit as well as they used to by using waist extenders. And even better . . . you can make your own using a rubber band.

Anyone, not just pregnant women can use a rubber band as waist extender, I presume?

Gosh. I'll have to remember that little tip, but I gotta' say I hope I never have to use it. For certain it won't be because I'm pregnant as it's a bit late for that. The battle of the bulge is one I don't intend to lose, though the bulge has managed to gain a slight amount of ground in the past few years.
Still no need for waist extenders, though, for which I'm grateful thus far.

I did that when I was pregnant, many years ago. You can use a simple rubber band or hair tie to get a couple more inches (and a few more weeks) out of a regular pair of pants instead of going right to maternity pants.

Sure, it will work for non-pregnant people too. It really does depend on the pants though. Some of them don't want to stay zipped properly when the closure is farther apart than it was made to be. Other pants work very well this way though. You just have to try it out and see.
