I have two herb gardens in window boxes outside but it's in a perfect place for creatures to peruse my wares. I was wondering if I could plant something (lavender or hot peppers?) that would detour them from complimenting their nuts/berries?

I don't know if there is anything you can plant, but I've read that hot pepper sauce will detract them as they don't like the taste of it. I read you can spray it on your plants; I think I would test it out on a plant I didn't care too much about first, though, to make sure it doesn't do any harm to the plant. And because they don't like the taste of hot pepper sauce, I'm also wondering if you could safely just plant some hot peppers and maybe the very plant would be displeasing to them?
