Everyone knows college students are typically short on cash. Despite that, many young guys lift weights these days and take part, at least to some degree, in bodybuilding. One of the most important aspects of building muscle is ensuring an adequate diet, and this can be extremely difficult on a tight budget. I'd like to hear some of your guys' tips on stretching a dollar in terms of eating a large volume of nutritious food. I'll start by suggesting potatoes. A big bag (5kg?) of potatoes is $3-$5 depending on where you're from, and it will last you weeks.
I'm not sure where you live, but if you look around you might even be able to find the potatoes cheaper than that. There's a couple of grocery stores in my neck of the woods that will sell 5lb bags of potatoes for 99 cents. Are you in a dorm, or do you have access to a full kitchen? That could make a big difference on what suggestions people give you. You could save quite a bit on chicken for example, buying it whole when they are marked down on sale, and breaking down the chicken yourself. But that's obviously not going to be practical in a dorm room.
The more cooking you do for yourself the cheaper it will be. My bf is constantly cooking chicken, fish and meatballs to maintain his diet. If you try to eat organic it will be expensive either way but if you are ok with the standard gmo food then you can keep the price down. Buying in bulk and freezing either raw or cooked portions can also make things cheaper!
