I have been considering doing a savings account again for some time. I have a shares account now at a local credit union. It only offers however 0.75%. Could I be doing better? What would the requirements be for opening an account? I know a limitation tends to be I can't afford to open the account in the first place.

Any advice in this search would be very helpful.

    Thanks!

.75% is pretty good for a savings account. It's been a minute since I've looked at the rates for online bank accounts, but if you can get that locally or online, I'd snatch it up. A lot of them dropped over the past few years from rates that were over 1%. What credit union is it? I may have to see if they allow online accounts from out of state. :D

ING Orange Saving Account is offering .80%. ING is pretty competitive.

All banks have decent rates for savings account. Usually, the best thing to do would be to just open one up with your current company. They will make sure to shoot you the offers they have at the moment relating to the topic, just ask them!
