A few years (or should I say decades?) ago it was pretty common for people to play real card games, but I feel that now those were replaced by TVs, tablets, smartphones and so on and on, and even their direct competitors, card games in the computer. Do you still play card games for real? Isn't that still entertaining?
This is true. It is definitely the case for me. I haven't played card games in a long time. They're generally not as fun as board games. I do miss Uno Attack but I think the cards are too bent for it to work and I can't be bothered to buy a new one.
At my kid's high school. where no phones are allowed during class, kids still play the card game Uno when they get bored. My teen still collects Pokemon cards here and there.
That's an interesting point. What has happened to all our favourite pastimes that we used to engage in before computers took over our lives? Recently, when I visited Spain, I was so pleased to see people sitting in parks and at tables outside their houses, playing cards and all types of board games. And I have noticed the same here in Latin America. It's a common custom for neighbours to get together and play a game of cards. I can't think of a better way for people of all ages to socialise and stay in touch with each other. I wish they did the same in my country.
I don't know about other people but the case for me is I'm older. When you're a kid, you can entertain yourself with anything and everything. Now kids today are different but if you've had a childhood full of less technology it is easy then.
As long as I live I think playing cards will remain relevant. I still enjoy playing games like spades and UNO. However, over the years I have burned out on games like go fish, war, tonk, just to name a few. I think overall, video games is more of the games of choice these days.
Yup, me and some friends still gather a few times per month to play poker or Uno. It's a great way to chat and interact at the same time or keep that competition spirit going strong. For poker we pooled money and bought an inexpensive set from a local store. It comes with two packs of cards, playing chips and a mat to put the cards on = sweet deal! Throw in some beers and you have the recipe for a fun night
My family are big card players especially during the holidays. My niece loves to play Uno. One of my sisters bought a pack of "Old Maid" cards from eBay. I get a big kick out of playing with that the card deck because it was my favorite game as a kid. It even has the same pictures. My Dad taught me how to play Pinochle, but I didn't keep it up. I would love to be able to re-learn that game.
Our family does from time to time when we get together. We play things like rummy, spades, hearts, etc. Occasionally we'll play dice or board games, too. It's definitely not nearly as common any more, though.
I have never been a card player, when I was in school there was always people playing cards having challengs and generally having fun. This summer we went to a party that had people playing cards, it brought back lots of memories. I do play a card game on my tablet once in awhile but I am not a big game player.
I remember the days where cards like UNO and board games were popular at school, my classmates would bring those to school and they will play with it during break time. I enjoyed playing them especially during those "crucial moments" in the game. Nowadays, of course they aren't popular anymore and compared to surfing the internet and playing video games, they seem boring.
Where I live, there are more elderly people than young ones. They hate change and would rather play card and board games any time rather than sit in front of their computers playing a racing or shooting game. They do play cards for fun but to make it even more competitive they usually play card games for low stakes. I've seen kids who visit their grandparents also play card games because well . . . kids are impressionable. They'll think card games are great while they are with their grandparents but once they go back home . . .
Of course! I love the non-betting games like War, go fish, hearts, etc with friends. Often times, playing card games with friends are some of the times we have together. And I'm a big Texas Hold'em player with having played online and at casinos many times before. I don't think card games will be going out of style for awhile.
Does blackjack at a casino count? I still actually play poker from time to time too. Even rarer I still occasionally play other card games like cribbage. No where near as often as I used to though.
The only place I play card games nowadays is at a casino. My friends and I used to love to play card games and gamble, but these days we're already too distracted by other more technologically advanced alternatives like video games. I kind of miss the gambling aspect that me and my friends used to do because it just doesn't feel the same if done in video games, but I guess we just grew out of it.
Whenever my friends and I get together, we still play cards. Sometimes, we play pairs, poker, or Chinese poker. We still prefer these games over computer games because they are more fun.
What on earth is Chinese poker? I know many Chinese people who play poker but that's just Texas hold'em. I know many varieties actually and I've never come across this. Maybe just something that never cropped up, I'd be interested to learn a new form though
I still do, but not as much as before. My old folks love card games and I have learned a few games when I was still a kid. They even play card games on their tablets! Does that count?
When I was younger there was definitely a lot of card playing going on, we had all sorts of games that we would play in the breaks at school. Nowadays the only card game I steadily play is Poker, it's the only one that is complex enough to keep my attention. Of course that when at the beach or at the pool, someone always takes out the UNO cards, those are also lots of fun with friends.
I still play UNO and 52 deck of cards. They have a variety of UNO card games now, and it makes it much more interesting than the original. For 52 deck of cards, never play a game called Connection, that is unless your bold and adventurous, because this drinking game will get you hammered in less than thirty minutes; two-decks will minus half the time of getting buzz or drunk. So, any takers on Connection this weekend?!
