If you are a PC gamer then you most likely own a desktop computer. Doing a laptop gaming PC is kinda unnecessary unless you are traveling. A desktop variety can easily be upgraded as need be compared to a laptop. Plus, you get to have a variety of cool cases to use.
I do. Desktop computers are mainly for heavy duty work. Although laptops of today can handle quite a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to computing work that involves more horsepower than usual, they have their limit and that is where desktops come in. Desktops are made for those kind of jobs and laptops are made for mobility and portability. Also, Desktop computers are relatively cheaper than laptops. With a $1000 budget you can pretty much get a very high performance desktop PC that would probably last you for 3-5 even 7 years compared to a laptop of the same price which is fairly under powered and would probably be useful for 2-4 years before you buy another one.
