I'm curious how many people have looked into the health care management programs offered by many health insurance plans? I have been on a few different insurance plans in the past, and some of the programs they offered were weight-loss coaching programs, smoking cessation and pregnancy care. These usually offer some sort of incentive upon completion as well, plus you're getting expert health coaching along the way. My current plan offers a $750 deductible credit for the pregnancy care program upon completion. Usually you have to receive scheduled phone calls with a coach and go through the entire program to get the benefit, but if you're already paying for the insurance, why not get the most out of it you can? Has anyone else completed one of these programs in the past?
What is a pregnancy care program? It this something offered in the states? You are right I probably don't know all the programs offered by my insurance. When I worked for a large company they perks were all spoken about, but now that I'm with a small company we are more on our own trying to figure out the coverage we have. At the end of last year I went for a few services that I had been holding off on and was surprised to find out they were covered all along. I wish I had known sooner!
Yes, these are all programs I have seen offered for US residents. The pregnancy program on my current plan just involves receiving a few calls from a nurse at certain points throughout the pregnancy and a follow up call postpartum, to help with goals and make sure you're taking care of yourself and getting the health support you need. It also has the deductible incentive you receive after the postpartum call and when you complete a survey on your experience in the program. Smaller companies may not offer the plans with these extra benefits, I'm not sure. It's definitely worth calling the insurance company to check on if any of them seem like they would apply to your family.
I took advantage of my health insurance plan's benefits from dental services (teeth cleaning and getting temporary fillings) to medical check-ups to, more recently, a simple reconstructive surgery for a congenital eye defect. It was truly worth it. Since it's your company that shoulders the payment for this health insurance, never leave your office without first taking advantage of it.
Well to be honest, now that I read some posts I am not really sure if I am. I visit the doctor for check ups and go to the dentist for the same, which are all covered, so I am good there. I am not sure if they have the smoking cessation or weight-loss programs like some users mentioned...I might have to look into that.
Hmm... I don't even get to use my insurance plan actually. But, maybe as I age I will be able to access more benefits. I do however feel happy that I am covered.
As a senior citizen, I have a Medicare Advantage plan which I totally love ! It not only covers all of my medical expenses, but also prescriptions as well. They send me a booklet with many over-the-counter type of items, and you are allowed to choose what you want from these up to a certain amount each month, too. My Cigna healthspring also covers a fitness membership through Silver and Fit; so we are able to go to the fitness center as often as we want to go, and work out. I do water exercises and swim, and Bobby uses the fitness equipment; and we go every other day; so this is a terrific benefit for us !
I just wanted to update this post. We have had this Medicare Advantage plan for over a year now, and it has been perfect for us. I have had to go to the hospital several times because of my heart problems, and will be having another heart operation next month. The Medicare aAdvantage covers all of the medications and equipment (like a walker) that I need. We are still going to the fitness center almost every day, and the exercise has really been helping me to feel better, too. The plan also covers part of the cost for eye glasses and dental expenses. I definitely can recommend getting one of the Advantage plans if you are on Medicare, or are going to be on it soon.
There are times when the health insurance provider would arrange special events for its subscribers. They would have free checkups and screenings along with some fitness coaching but I have never ever got around to take advantage of these opportunities, even though I am aware that these events could be very beneficial to me.
Well the short answer is no, and the longer answer is the fact that they never explain how the benefits work. I am not sure if this is specific to my company, but they advertise all the events with nothing on how it actually saves us money.
Our company's healthcare provider offers free annual check up which covers x-ray, CBC, fecalysis, urinalysis, blood sugar count, pap smear, and physical check up. When an attending doctor recommends further consultation with a specialist, that will be included in the package. The company requires all employees to undergo the check up. In the recent physical exam, we were given either free warts removal or facial treatment based on the employee's preferences. Employees should take advantage of these benefits as these exams can be a good way to catch the onset of a dread disease in its early stages.
My friend (who is also a senior on Medicare) sent me an email that she had received from Humana, her insurance company. They were having a free webinar that talked about things like kidney disease/kidney failure, and other health problems that seniors often have issues with . I think that it is great that Humana educates elderly people about things like this, and wish that my insurance also offered webinars. As part of my Advantage plan, we do get allowances for OTC drugs or vitamins, medical equipment, cough medication, and just about anything person might buy at the store. I think that they also offer a limited amount of free rides when we need a ride to go for a doctors appointment. There are actually a lot of benefits that come with a Medicare Advantage Plan.
