No, if only for mere socializing, no! But if it's really needed, then why not like the text messaging. But for as it is now, I won't spend, not even a dime. Besides, I don't find Facebook at all entertaining, not even a necessity. I have never become so hooked to it, so I could just easily claim that I will ditch it if ever they would be asking money from the users.
Never in a million years would I pay for Facebook, I really like it, but it's not worth paying for, I don't use it enough for it to be worth the money. Granted, I am on daily but I talk to absolutely no one expect my mother and boyfriend from time to time.
And you thought they don't have your credit card info? Remember they also own whatsapp, they know everything about you. EVERYTHING! and yes its scary but this is the price you pay for being on facebook already. As far the money is concerned I don't think they are ever gonna charge anything from the user because of two reasons: 1. It says so on the main page "Its is free and always will be." 2. they earn the money from advertisers, if they start charging users, their business model will fail miserably. Only condition they can charge is if the user opts out of the advertisement cycle, which again is not a viable option. If in realty they start charging, I'll quit Facebook.
I use Facebook, but it's mainly a means of contacting people I rarely talk to. I think my last update was in January and I haven't posted anything since. I'm also kind of annoyed that they decided to take away the messenger functionality of the Facebook app just so people would download their messenger app. Facebook is slightly useful to me at times, but not enough to warrant paying for the service.
I most likely would not ever pay to use Facebook just for socializing. If I recall correctly, they have wording on their website that says that Facebook is free and "always" will be. So, if or when I ever see an Article or promotion saying that they are getting ready to start charging, I would not believe it. Plus, they already make a ton of money every year from paid Advertising. I plan to one day use them for paid Advertising for one of my websites, but most likely never just for using the website to only socialize. And they already have so much information on specific users that it is very concerning to think about what they could do with all such personal information.
I don't really use Facebook, so I won't be affected if ever it starts to charge, but the rumor has been debunked officially anyway. I think any website especially social media that charges you for using their services is just a bad business strategy. It will repel users instead of attract them.
