Big Lots is one of my favorite stores. It has a bit more items that the Dollar Tree or Family Dollar. They have recently started selling food. In fact, the food is located right near the door. When I walk in the store, the first thing I smell is overly ripped vegetables

I don't know about how I feel with every store selling food. It's not adding up. If we are in a recession, then how are the food companies producing enough to supply all of these stores? Why would they spread themselves that thin? I know the stores are paying them, but if people aren't buying the goods, how long is the food sitting on the shelves at some of these...I'll call them "alternative grocery stores"?

Our local Big Lots doesn't sell any perishable items. They only recently started selling non-perishables but most of the brands I have never heard of before so I have been hesitant on puchasing any of them. They also used to have much better prices than they do now. They still do have some good buys but it seems like things are changing for the worse at Big Lots.

I don't shop Big Lots often, the few time I have gone into the store I don't really see what I am looking for. I have seen some nice home decor items I would purchase if I was looking to purchase at the time. Since Christmas is in 6 months I guess I may start picking up an item here and there so that I will be done by Christmas.

I used to love Big Lots when I lived in a different city, but here it is in the ghetto and not worth the trip. It got robbed by gun point last week.

The Big Lots in my area sells Ashley Furniture. Brand new and still in the boxes. Its pries very low, and even if you ask for a discount for no reason they will give you 10% off. I got a new couch, desk, and kitchen table for less than $800 when I moved last year. Thats name brand furniture at a great price!

I wasn't aware that Big Lots started to sell produce. I'd be a bit wary of that myself. If I recall, the food that they sell is a lot of off brand stuff or near expired food that the chain grocery stores will no longer sell. I'd be very careful about perishable food I bought from there...

Congrats. You got a great bargain. The Big Lots here also has great bargains on household items and furniture. That's their strength. Occasionally, I can find some great deals on electronics and DVDs.

That must have been terrifying. Are you okay?

I actually like shopping at Big Lots. It's located right across the street from the mall so I frequently go there after getting off work. I mostly pick up DVDs and snacks from there since they are pretty cheap. It seems like once in a while you can pick up brand named items too. I especially like going when they have their 20% off sale, that's when I stock up.

Big Lots doesn't sell produce... I think they tested it out at one point but they dont' still do it. They mostly sell non-perishable foods.

In my opinion, Big Lots should only sell nonparishable food since it seems like they keep their stock for quite some time. I have seen some unsavory looking bread there, which was a little gross. I went there recently to check out some outdoor summer gear for the kids, and I did not find the prices cheaper than any place else. Most of the Big Lots have been closed down in my area, and I can see why. I still like the store, but I think they could be more competitive on their prices and selection.

I like the Big Lots in my town even though they are a little messy. As they are a discount store and get most of their items from stores that go out of business I won't complain. They never really know what they are going to get so it makes it hard to plan. My store sells food but not perishables. I can't imagine going to Big Lots for that type of product. I usually can find really good deals on other food products though.

I think it's probably one of the best places to get cheap school supplies. You can also get frames and odds and ends at Big Lots. Like someone said, it's a great place just to stock up on many non-perishable items. It's also a good idea to browse around for hidden treasure. Great store for all of the above.

I actually really, really don't like Big Lots, so I have no intentions of checking out their food. The only ones I've been in before were always on the dirtier side, the prices weren't comparable to other similar stores, and the customer service sucked. If you guys have good Big Lots, though, then that's pretty awesome that they have food now!

I think it's great to have a Big Lots when you are shopping for things that are seasonal. You can walk in with $20 during Xmas season and walk out with decorations for the tree and enough to deck the halls. Same applies to 4th of July, Thanksgiving, St. Patty's day, New Years etc. If you are an addict to seasonal decorating its a great place to shop. Our store doesnt sell food so I wouldn't be able to give feed back on that.

The Big Lots near me still has produce. It's the reason why I don't shop there as much as I used to.

School supplies, etc are the main reasons why I shop at Big Lots. Although I'm no longer in school, I still need notebooks, papers and pens. I also buy crayons and coloring books for my niece.
