I don't know if decaf is the unhealthy alternative, because I have never really given it any thought. But now that you mention it, I guess that it would be, being that the coffee company has to do something to it in order to alter it from it's natural state of caffeinated, whereas the caffeinated coffee is in it's natural state.

I didn't know the process for decaffeinated coffee so this thread actually taught me something new. But I have never been a fan of decaff coffee because I think caffeine is at least half the reason I consume coffee in the first place.

I am not a hardcore coffee drinker, but I tend to favor natural coffee more than the artificial decaffeinated one. My question is: If there is no caffeine in the coffee, then what is the use drinking it? Caffeine gives us the energy when we drink coffee. If the caffeine is removed, then I don't think the coffee is worth much.

Me too. Caffeine is half the reason I drink coffee so decaf doesn't make sense for me. I like the taste of coffee but I mainly drink it for the energy and stimulation. If you take the caffeine out of coffee, it's just coffee flavored milk.
I saw an $8 bag of decaf at Walmart yesterday. So someone out there is paying $8 to brew a pot of water with no caffeine that tastes like coffee.

I definitely like regular coffee better, it doesn't taste the same as decaf which is not nearly as good. I try not to drink either though, since it's not good for my body at all, and I try to eat fruits instead when I need to stay awake.

I drink coffee for caffeine so there's no way I'd have it in decaf. Although some would like it that way because I think they say it's better for their health. But it's not going to work for me I'm afraid.

I've heard that there is still caffeine in decaf coffee, it's just in trace amounts. Coffee in general will give me an upset stomach if I drink to much of it - doesn't matter if it's decaf or not. In some people it acts as a diuretic.

Yes, I agree with this 100% because I always feel that if you take something that makes a product whole then it becomes unatural or has that unatural taste. It's just not recommended in my opinion because decaffeinated coffeemight actually be much more harmful in the long run. This is why I always drink the regular version and I feel that this will always be my routine as well.

Caffeine can make some people rather anxious. I know some people only ever drink decaffeinated because caffeine puts them "on edge" too much. It does not seem to have that effect on me though. I never add anything to my coffee. I just like the taste and smell of it by itself. I don't feel it needs anything else such as sugar or milk. I never add anything to tea either.

Coffee addiction or sugar addiction or both, haha. I drink my coffee black, sometimes I have it with cream, I love it with cream. There's nothing wrong with cream in your coffee but you should try to avoid the sugar. Gradually ween yourself off it and your taste buds will adjust.

I could't drink decaf. My brain just functions better and it's a comfort, so I won't mess with the caffeine. I won't even call decaf coffee, lol
