Which is better overall? Do you think it's more worth to just buy a cake and save the hassle and time or bake your own cake for a cheaper cost? Company's having a party and I'm tasked with the cake.
Well, the thing about buying a cake is that you are paying for the convenience of it already being made. You can actually make several cakes yourself for the price of buying one already made. Though, since you are having some party for your company then your best bet would be to buy one that is already made. Also, shouldn't your company be footing the bill for it?
If you have experience baking a cake, it's definitely cheaper to make this sweet at home. Otherwise, opt for a store bought cake. You won't be embarrassed in front of co-workers because of your cake's appearance or taste.
We are each tasked to bring something to the party on our own expense and I'm tasked with the cake. We don't mind since our boss also has to bring something using his pocket. Anyway, I think I'm just going to buy one since it's failsafe and I can have it delivered straight to the office.
Oh gawd, I don't even want to know what's in a bought cake.. I personally need to know the ingredients and hopefully they're all real foods. Boxed is even worse, i won't even look at them. I will always bake my own cakes. I don't eat them usually, I've never been a cake person, but there are so many great recipes online for awesome cakes, you just couldn't go wrong.. especially with all the reviews to help you through them
I f you know how to bake a cake, then that is the more practical choice, especially if you're a pro in baking cakes, because you can serve more slices as compared to buying a ready made one. But when you don't know how to bake like I do, then you have no choice but to buy a ready made one from the store. It's more expensive, but you can't go wrong with that especially with the presentation.
In my opinion, the only reason for me to bake my own cake is if there was no other bakery that I liked enough to just buy off of. I have found a number of good bakeries that I plan on buying from indefinitely, though, so I'm leaning towards just buying it instead of baking. If I were to move to another city and not have any good bakeries around, only then would I consider making my own so I can hopefully make one as close to my particular taste as possible. Otherwise, I think it's not that much worth the trouble to bake, but I admit I am not really fond of baking as I am of cooking to begin with so I'm biased that way.
I think that it would be better to make the cake yourself. If you make the cake yourself, then it will be better than buying the cake from the store and better than buying it from a company that makes them. If you really do make the cake yourself, the first thing that I would do is to tell the people in the company that you made it. What may happen is that some people from the job may love that cake so much, they may ask you to make them a cake. That right there will equal a little extra $$$ if multiple people want you to make them one. I know it may seem like a hassle to make a cake from scratch, but making that one cake could turn into future orders for you. I know a lady that gave her friend a piece of cake for them to taste and the cake was so good, her friend called her a few days later and wanted to pay her to make a few more cakes. This lady does not even make cakes for a living, but the cake was so good that it spoke for itself and her friend had to have more. Even if no one wanted to buy a cake from you, you would still be known as the person that makes those good cakes.
I supposed if you know how to bake and if you love doing it then it's all fine and well. But I'd rather just really buy to save me the time and effort. LOL
I'd sooner buy a ready-made cake rather than try to make one for myself. I remember some time back when I attempted to make food using a recipe I had found somewhere. The final product was so disgusting that no one took more than just 1 bite. Since then, if it's not something I haven't cooked in the past, then I definitely won't try it. Bake cakes? It's definitely a no.
While bought cakes have that neutral taste that i do enjoy from time to time, home-made cakes always taste better, if not for the experience of baking them with your loved ones.
If you're a skilled baker, and can "wow" everyone, then I would say to make one. But if a store bought cake looks better than yours, I'd buy the cake. Also, if everyone else is buying/bringing fancier fare, then I would go with the prettiest choice you can make. But if it is just a very casual pot luck, then a homemade cake would probably work just fine. Hey, how about skipping the cake and making brownies and cookies instead? It is so much easier to serve those (or cupcakes) than a cake.
I honestly can't remember the last time I bought a cake! It's not rocket science to be frank and at least if I make it, I know exactly what went into it....just fresh, wholesome ingredients. If I'm short on time, then I'll use a boxed cake mix for convenience like Betty Crocker. You can even use cake mixes to make things other than cakes...see what I mean here >>Log In
I think it depends. My cakes are delicious but not very pretty. I make them for friends and family, but I'd probably just buy one if it were for a fancy event.
There are quite a few things you must consider when deciding if you want to bake or buy a cake. One, if you bake a cake is cheaper, the quality is probably better, but you will have a lot of work. Two, if you buy a cake you have no work at all (great), but you do spend money and the cake is probably not as healthy because it's not home-made. I'd say it will depend on the time and money you have.
For me, it is buying the cake. First thing, I CAN NOT BAKE! So buying the cake would be the obvious choice for me! The next thing is, even if I could bake I don't think I would be able to make the cakes that I love, which are Black Forest and Red Velvet. Buying is just the perfect way to go because most of the places that sell cakes, sell cakes that are done by professionals, people who went to school for that!
