I've weighed in on this before, and even though it's an older thread, I'd like to add something to my earlier comments - there are times when a gift of a plant is not the best idea. A person who has a lot of plants needs to be able to manage what they have and usually chooses their plants according to what time they have for care as well as the kind of environment they have for growing. Easy care perennials are the best for gifting.
