What kind of insurance coverage have you got for your car? I have a limited liability one, I pay much less but in case of an accident they only pay for any damages I make on other cars or property, they don't pay for my own damage, as long as that's my fault. I'd like to get full coverage but that's just too expensive.
I used to have full coverage but as my truck got older, I reduced it liability and a much lower coverage on other optional things. I do keep insurance for damage and contents as people break in to vehicles and usually go through the windows when they do. It also provides me a little protection in the event of a hit and run. Those mysterious damages to the car that appear in parking lots etc rarely come with a note to contact the culprit. I really wish we had a few more options that allowed us to insure a vehicle for intermittent use. I hate paying for insurance for a month and only driving the truck once or twice for less than 10kms.
