Cheap Dish Recipe #16 – Sauteed Jackfruit

    This recipe may surprise if you are not familiar with raw jackfruit. The ingredients are 1 kilo of raw jackfruit, 100 grams of pork, 1 liter of coconut milk, 1 tablespoon of shrimp paste, 2 onions, ½ clove of garlic, cooking oil.

    Peel and cut the raw jackfruit into desired size. Boil the pork for 10 minutes and cut into strips. Sautee the crushed garlic until it turns brown before adding the onions. When the onions are wilted, pour the shrimp paste and stir for 30 seconds before pouring the coconut milk. Let it boil for 10 minutes before adding the jackfruit. Stir once in a while for 10 minutes of boiling. Add the pork and stir for 1 minute before turning off the fire. Best to eat with steamed rice.

    Jackfruit is expensive. I am not sure if this is something that can save me money. Also most Jackfruit sold in the US are ripe which is more useful for desserts like pie or ice cream. It is very expensive in the US and the only way to have it is to either buy it frozen or canned.

    Unless I can find a place online that sells it in the US with a discount.
