I like saving up for my gadgets too. If I don't need them out of necessity then I would like for it not to make a huge dent in my bank account.
Normally I'm no rush to buy stuff the moment they're released. My reasoning is based on the fact that the product is not yet tested out by unbiased individuals. If the ones who bought the phone, computer, etc., are impressed with it's performance, then quite naturally I'll jump on the bandwagon. But if their feedback is negative. . .
I agree. However sometimes the gadget seems so good that some of us would buy it right away. But so many of you have said no, yet there are TONS of people when the release day comes. I thought the world was in a horrible economy. Either people have credit cards or they have money!
No, I wait until the price is lower and all the bugs have been worked out. I am not a big gadget person.
The only thing that I have bought on the first day was my Nintendo 3DS. Other than that, I try to avoid first day purchases because there are usually bugs that the companies have yet to work out.
I don't think I ever have! I rather wait till the price drops. I'm not like crazy about new things coming out so I can hold on awhile until the price drops down enough.
I remember I bought my ps3 a few months after it came out thinking that... *oh it's been a few month now, if it hasn't gone down in price yet, it probably won't for a while...* and what happens a week after I buy it? Sony announces it's price decrease... Oh sigh... it's funny how time can depreciate the value of things...
The prices drops dramatically if patience remains strong! I mean it takes maybe 3 months for the price to go down at least a little bit. If not then it will always be on sale somewhere.
I don't personally believe in the notion of buying any stuff on the first three months of its launching. I always tend to wait until four to six months when the prices go a bit lower. However a friend of mine keeps insisting that the moment certain devices are produced they usually have the original quality that would enable them last longer but after a short time more duplicates are made which make the market so intense causing the prices to be lower which can as well be a great risk for anyone wishing to buy tech devices after the price decreases.
I agree with Banister, that's something I would never do because new stuff always brings bugs or issues and I don't want to pay to be a tester. Apart from this, things are always more expensive when they are released.
I'm not concerned with having brand new technology the second it is launched. Many years ago technology jumps were more noticeable, today it is advanced enough that changes (to the average consumer) don't mean as much, at least not for me, so I'm in no big hurry. I do think it takes a little while for the prices to drop, so if it was something I really wanted to get my hands on, I may not wait that long, but I wouldn't be joining the waiting line on release day either.
I never buy release products. A lot of products get new hardware or major fixes short after release. Like gaming consoles; I rather have a stable game console that I KNOW will last. I think there's a big problem with todays quality control measures.
I'm 100% with you on this one. Back in the day it would be exciting to get something on the very first day and I would not regret buying it. However these days just seem like a repetitive thing but with more technical problems. The PS4 probably has more problems now since it was launched a few days ago than it ever would in a few months. I wouldn't want to be the tester that spends so much on the first day when the price will just decrease after some time has gone by. I never understood those long lines...maybe I'm just weird?
Indeed, just look at the PS4, many models have defects in them. I would rather wait till I know I'm getting something that works that to get something hot off the shelf that happens to be broken.
I wouldn't, since you have no idea if there are going to be some major hardware issues or not with the system until it gets into the hands of more people. I got burned by this several times with phones and cameras in the past. Years ago a Samsung phone I bought had reception problems due to the metal case it was in. They finally had to re-release the phone with a plastic case to correct this, but I got stuck with the poor performing one. Also a Canon DSLR I bought a few years ago had a widespread problem with the rubber grips peeling off over time, which of course didn't start happening with mine until right after the warranty expired.
Where are the people that say they would? I haven't met anyone that would wait weeks for a big launch day but I see hundreds of people waiting in front of big stores for so long and no matter how cold it is, they are always there. All of you bring up great points about tech problems and the price is just so high at the release day. I always wonder how the price can be so high yet the technology is almost worth half with all of it's months worth of technical problems?
I always wait. Why? I want to see if the phone/PC/gadget has any glitches and/or will go down in price. The only item I have ever ran out to buy on the first day is a video game. I hate being put on waiting lists.
