My wife and I always go grocery shopping on Fridays and it's usually packed in there. When we go, we like to observe people's carts during the checkout. We always notice carts full of junk: chips, soda, ice cream, frozen foods, candy, white bread, cold cuts, kool-aid, etc. We always wonder: don't they feel bad for not purchasing anything healthy? I know if I don't buy My Bag of carrots and apples, I'm going to into an epileptic seizure.

    What do you think?

I would feel bad if I didn't at least buy my frozen peas, frozen mixed vegetables, frozen green beans and frozen broccoli. I don't feel right about serving a meal that doesn't have something green on the plate.
I hate canned vegetables but I like frozen ones.

That's being kind of nosey and judgemental to be honest, lol.

I cook a lot but I generally buy only certain items at certain stores. I usually don't like buying produce at my local grocery stores because it's overpriced, I typically get it every weekend at our farmers market instead.

I feel very bad inside if I don't buy and vegetables or fruits. These things are something I constantly include in my diet so therefore I feel weird as if I am letting my health down. I try to buy as many fruits and vegetables to last me for a week because I include them in salads as well as smoothies.

When I don't have fresh fruits or vegetables, I make sure I drink some fruitables, and V8 juice. It may not be the same, but at least you are getting your daily requirement in. I even add the V* tomato juice when I am cooking rice. That way I am getting my vegetable serving in there.

I buy too many fruits and vegetables, to be honest, because I often finish up throwing stuff away. However, I only uy them from the supermarket if I need something urgently and I can't get to the market. Produce in supermarkets tends to be more expensive, so I don't buy it from the supermarket. I don't buy junk or processed food either - or at least, hardly any - so I think you'd approve of my shopping cart.

The only time that I do not buy fruits and vegetables is when I already have them at home. I love fruit; it takes good, it's good for you, and it's way better than junk food in every imaginable way you can think of. I eat vegetables more than anything else, though I do like chocolate and chips in modest amounts.

Well, I think that it's just a matter of personal preference. Some people want to eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, while others don't want to and instead prefer junk food and other foods that don't contain beneficial ingredients to the body. In our household, my dad makes sure that there are bananas and vegetables in here, and we also aren't particularly fond of junk foods too, which is good.

Agreed. I, for instance, don't buy most of the fruits and vegetables with the rest of my groceries. There's a green grocery nearby where they have fresh and affordable fruits. Their tangerines and bananas are the best!

I think I almost always have fruit in my cart. It seems like I am constantly buying milk and bananas. My kids don't always willingly eat fruit or vegetables, but I can hide just about anything in a smoothie and mild and bananas are a key ingredient. The cost be deterring. I'm amazed at how much a bag of apples can cost. Some people have to make tough decisions. You can't always afford everything.

I try not to judge another person's food choices because I don't always purchase the best stuff myself, lol. Some people have not been trained to eat fruit, say for instance the children of the people you see buying all that junk food (if they have children). More than likely, when those kids grow up, they will be used to eating chips and ice-cream and all kinds of other stuff, without any type of fruit in their diets. Perhaps the people that you see buy that type of food are just not used to buying certain things because no one has been a shining example for them to follow. Eating junk is second nature to them.

Honestly, all the stuff that you mentioned, I buy too, except for white bread, but I also buy fruits, vegetables, soy milk. I think that there has to be a balance. I have a teenager, he likes cold-cuts, soda, ice-cream, stuff like that, so I buy it. But he also likes grapes, papaya, avocado, salads, beans, corn, and various other vegetables too.

Clearly they don't feel bad about it. They're the ones who chose what to buy, haha!

I try not to judge what's in other people's shopping carts, though. Their lives are their choice and if they want to eat potato chips, then they will. I try to pay more attention to what's in my cart, which usually does include fruits and vegetables.

It's their choice to buy what they want to eat. I really don't care what other people choose to buy when shopping for groceries. I have a tendency to buy too many fruits and vegetables and sometimes end up trying them away because they are no longer good. I rarely purchase junk foods, but when I buy healthy foods, I do so in moderation.

Not really. I hate shopping for fruits because it takes FOREVER.

I really don't feel unhealthy even though I don't eat much healthy foods, maybe it's because I eat home 99% of the time.

I don't feel bad leaving the grocery store without having bought fruits or veggies especially if my intention was to buy other things on the list that didn't include items from the produce section. If I have enough of the stuff at home already then I won't need to replenish them until at a later time. I don't like buying too many fruits or veggies all at once, though, because if I don't eat or use them quickly enough, they tend to spoil or rot easily especially if I don't keep track of how much I have.

I don't feel bad about it because it rarely happens. Even if I leave the grocery store without some fresh produce, I know I have some frozen at home.

As for what's in other people's carts, I usually only judge when I see them with 5 kids tagging along behind, too. I feel bad that those kids are going to grow up on nothing but frozen cardboard pizza, chips, french fries, and soda.

The veggies and fruit aisle is always my first stop. There are times when I have come back without buying meat or fish.. that happens frequently but I cannot live without fruits and vegetables.
I watch people pile on junk and wonder how they can do it to themselves.. they are often out of shape. I once saw a young man pile his cart with Ramen noodles.. and nothing else. My sons went 'cool man'. They seemed pretty jealous of the young man as he could eat all the junk he wanted.

I do not think it is wrong or should be an issue what they purchase, because it's there preference. Now, some people purchase that because eating healthy can be expensive. Now, I have noticed with me trying to get healthy, if you purchase healthy foods, you still need to portion. Once you portion your food you get your money worth and it allows you to set your stomach to lower amount of food. I still have things in moderation! So like this month I wanted some popcorn. I purchased some popcorn, but I still have my fish, chicken breast, tomatoes, green peppers, corn, and etc ;) Since we are a free country we can eat whatever we please. So when they get tired of their junk food habit they will change some things.

Once every three of four months I have a splurge on junk food. My brother and our friend Tom go to the supermarket and buy a load of chocolate, ice cream, biscuits and crisps, and we devour it over the weekend. Our trolley is full of junk and I feel a sense of embarrassment for buying a load of crap.
