I have a manual can opener and have never owned an electric one. The majority of cans I buy have ring pulls now so I rarely need to use an opener. So I don't think an electric device would be worth the cost for me. However, they could be a massive help to those with mobility problems in their arms and hands.
Electric can openers are cool and all, but some of them are far more frustrating to operate than a regular can opener, which is kind of amusing. It's easier to simply own a manual can opener that also acts as a bottle opener. Plus, you can get a little exercise while trying to wrestle cans open.
I had an electric can opener years ago, but no more. I've been using a manual can opener for years now, and haven't even given any thought to buying an electric one. I think that even though a lot of cans now a days come with an easy open type of top, it's good to have a manual can opener on hand just for practical purposes. What if you want to open a can of something and the power is out?
I have an electric can opener in my kitchen, but there is also a manual one. A number of years ago, a tornado went through my area and it tore down the lines that came from our power plant and the whole area was without electricity. Since my stove is electric, I had to resort to cooking on my barbque grill. Thank goodness I had an electric can opener! Cooking in the grill was fun, I even did bacon and eggs on my grill. Cold food went into an ice chest and thankfully, the ice house in our town had a generator, so we were able to buy ice to keep foods cold. Any way,,,, yes,,, I have a manual can opener and am so glad I do!
I have several. The manual can opener and the camping can can openers are the only ones I have. I don't like the electric can openers at all!! May e when I get older ill need one. Until I do, I'm sticking with these. The only problem is that they are made so cheaply now that 9 out of 10 can openers will break after the first use.
