I agree, making your own salad dressing is much healthier. Salad dressing isn't really that hard to make either. IA homemade dressing tastes much fresher than the bottled store bought kind. I will use olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, vinegar. If you want to give it a Greek twist add some oregano and feta. Another dressing I like to make is a Japanese style one, with ginger, garlic, soy sauce, honey, rice wine vinegar , dijon mustard and olive oil. Most people have these ingredients in their pantry so it's not that hard to make your own. I like to make it in a jar so if you don't use all of the dressing you can cap it and save it.

I never make my own salad dressing, and never have. I am a lazy cook, if I am going to be honest, and just having to buy all of the ingredients for the salad, and then having to prepare that aspect of the salad is already enough of a task for me, without having to make my own dressing too. I buy store bought dressings.

Yes - always make own - as apart from the fact that making your own salad dressings is a traditional part of cooking where where I come from - they are way healthier too - as homemade salad dressings generally only contain natural ingredients unlike the commercially made chemical concoctions that masquerade as salad dressings in the stores.

They're also fun, easy to make and extremely cost effective - especially as even the simple basic recipes can very easily be adapted to suit almost any kind of dish and should you have any left over - no need to discard it - as leftover salad dressings are excellent for adding to or using as marinades for meat, fish or vegetables.

So many thanks for sharing the link Diane Lane - especially as - although I already have an abundance of recipes - I always welcome the opportunity to try new ones and have to say that having had a quick glance through - some have very definitely caught my eye.

Yeah! :D I usually use a little apple cider vingar or white wine vinegar as a base, add some herbs fresh or dried, especially parsley and basil, then a little sweetener like agave syrup or honey, some pepper, lemon juice and a little mustard and olive oil, mix it up and it makes a lovely salad dressing with nice fresh flavour and its lower fat than alot of the dressings you get in the shops. Although I do like alot of shop bought dressings, its fun to make your own and especially handy if you haven't got any in and you want a salad! :D

I make my own if it's simple enough, but I usually just buy from stores. I don't really like the taste of store bought dressings though because they always taste so artificial or just too strong for my taste. I agree that it's much better to just make your own since it's not too difficult anyway and being able to control the taste and the healthiness is a great advantage.

Home made salad dressings like everything else, are not only better for you, but taste better. Sadly, I'm not very creative in that area. The only salad dressing I make at home is balsamic vinegar and olive oil. I sometimes jazz it up with a bit of salt and black pepper and a drizzle of honey. I really ought to experiment more, because I've seen a few easy recipes. It's all because of laziness LOL

I recently started making my own salad dressings. I’ve found in recent months the price of bottled salad dressing is getting so high! It’s so much cheaper and easier to make your own. I also don’t like that the pre-made bottled dressings have so much preservatives in them.

I usually use olive oil and vinegar with a few spices, but I’ve also made everything from honey mustard dressing to balsamic vinaigrette. I love testing out different recipes and it’s great because I only make a small amount at first in case I don’t like it. I’ve found that in the past I would try out different dressings and hate the way the taste, I would end up throwing them out which is such a waste of food and money.

Yes, I always try and make my own dressings when I can, because they're a lot cheaper than the ones that you buy from the shops. It means that I can save the money for something I really want to buy, and I actually enjoy the taste much better if I make it myself, as I can ensure that the flavours are just how I like them.

Well in recent months, since I have been eating a lot more healthier, I have not been able to eat purchased salad dressings, which sucks because they are gorgeous with the right ingredients a lot of time. But I have been using lemon juice from a fresh lemon to squeeze over the food that I want to dress. Healthy foods can be a bit drab, so this really helps.
