I have mixed feelings about this one...I think it just has to fit in with the rest of the story, whether that lends itself to a happy ending or a tragic one or something in between. I don't like feeling like it's forced and/or just for shock value. I love a good happy ending as much as the next person, but sometimes there's something that sticks with you about a well-written, not-so-happy ending, too.
