Do You Still Buy An Item Even If The Seller Doesn't Offer Returns If You're Unhappy With The Item?

I noticed that some eBay sellers don't offer the option of returning the item if you are unhappy with what you bought, but I still buy from them anyway. I noticed that those items are sealed, like when I bought a Sony M2 memory card, I noticed that the seller doesn't offer to accept returns, but I still bought the item anyway, since I know that the chances of the item malfunctioning or being fake is unlikely, since I did my research and it's a genuine Sony M2 memory card.

So how about you, would you buy from a seller who does not accept item returns? Why or why not? I think if the item is really faulty and they won't accept it, then you can always file for an Ebay dispute.

It's too risky so I can't do it.

The fact that you agree to be bound by the terms of the sale [a no return policy] then I don't suppose there's a way you can wiggle yourself out of this should you receive a faulty item. For example as in your case, you bought a Sony Memory card which was still sealed. Supposing you opened it and found out it wasn't working, do you blame the seller for selling a faulty memory card or go after the company which made it?

I've never bought on e-bay, but I wouldn't buy on those conditions. Especially when buying used things I think that the seller has to be reliable or offer the possibility of return, imagine if the item is damaged for example. If it's sealed like you say sidney, there's no point why not to accept the return, I think it just shows bad faith.

I think I would message the seller 1st and return the item if the cost is affordable in my book for return shipping. But if the seller refuses to give a refund then I will leave a negative feedback, because I think as sellers, they should not be close minded and they should also think about the welfare of their customers too, especially if the item was sealed and within a week it malfunctioned. Maybe because the item was sealed that's why they are complacent. I bought a "brand new" phone in Ebay and they accept phones repairs if your phone malfunctioned before it turns a year old. I didn't send my broken phone back though.

Ah you should definitely not do that on used items, only on new and sealed ones. Maybe because they assume that sealed items are less likely to malfunction, like in my case it's an M2 card that's why they don't accept returns.

I have to say that I always carefully research every site that I am not familiar with. I google for reviews and also look in the scam sections. I have bought various products from little known companies that specialise in certain things that are not easy to get where I live, and never had a problem. But I never buy big quantities in the beginning. I like to test the site first before I make a substantial order.

I'd only consider it for a few choice items, and probably only mostly ones that don't cost that much. If an item has less possibility of being broken or getting damaged in transit, then I would consider it, but otherwise, I'd much rather take my chances elsewhere. There are just far too many options nowadays for me to feel the need to risk on any particular seller. Unless the item is something that really shouldn't be returned like one for personal use, then I don't see much reason in.having to put up with a no return policy.

To be honest I buy it anyway. Even when I was scammed 3 out of 50 times, not bad odds, I never sent it back. I threw one of the duds away, kept one of them, and gave the other away (wrong size skirt.) It just isn't worth the hassle considering I never really buy expensive things on Ebay. It's a gamble regardless and sometimes you luck out.

I need to be able to return the item just because so many people can sell you faulty appliances or equipment. Nothing is as advertised. Although everything I have bought from Ebay has been up to par and I have not had to return it.

Yes I would. eBay offers a buyer protection program that is valid for almost all listings (if it's covered it says so in a corner of the page). A seller may say that they offer no returns, but if the item you received is significantly not as described (not what you ordered, different size, defective, damaged, etc) you can open a case. Most likely the case will be enough for the seller to give you a refund or exchange. It's better for sellers to resolve the issue with the buyer directly instead of letting eBay decide. If the seller doesn't respond or refuses to do anything eBay will decide. They almost always go in favor of the buyer and the money is automatically taken from the sellers PayPal.

A lot of sellers say they don't offer returns because they don't want a lot of people returning merchandise for whatever purpose.

As a buyer I've had a situation where I got my money back this way from a seller that didn't offer returns. As a seller one time I sold a camera that was listed as for parts or repairs, clearly stated the damage, included a bunch of photos, and yet the buyer filed a claim and eBay sided with them.

Well, that buyer doesn't know how to read clearly then. I do understand why sellers don't accept returns, they also don't want to be bothered by various complaints and even buyer's remorse. I guess if ever I sell something on Ebay then I will also not accept returns, after all I will test the item thoroughly before shipping it.

I sell on eBay too and I was just going to say the same thing. Even sellers that don't accept returns have to give you a refund if the item is not as described and you open a case with ebay.
Unfotunately, some buyers use that protection to get free items, but the protection is there if a buyer needs it, so I feel safe buying on ebay.
