I see that a lot of electrical equipments nowadays like air conditioner, refrigerator, and etc. use this inverter thing. They all claim that it can reduce consumption of up to 40% while some even claim that it can reach 60%. How true do you think their claims are? Is inverter really effective in saving electricity or it's only a marketing gimmick?

That is what the advertisement says it does. But I need to do more research on the subject. But by comparison, if you look at the power usage guide on the side of the air con units i have in my house........my 2 horse power inverter air con uses 600 watts an hour to run on low. While my 1/2 horse power regular air con runs at 300 watts an hour. So if you do a mathematical comparison, my inverter style air con is using half the total watt usage at 600 watts, if you quadrupled the 1/2 horse power air con to match that of the 2 horse power inverter unit.
