I recently saw a project for "Earth Bag" houses. They use sand bags filled with earth/soil and a mix of concrete. The bags are laid out to form the shape of the home or building and then it appears as if the structure is covered in the earth/concrete mixture. They are built in "pods" or sections (rooms).

There are kits, which also come with a class for teaching you how to build the structure. They are very unusual looking. They seem like they would be fairly cheap to build, even including the classes, although the upgrades do add up. Everything is an upgrade too, including things like windows and flooring. They are small though, so the materials might not be that bad.

If a person was quite careful, it might be an economical way to build a home. It depends on the person too. They look like big bee hives made of mud. It's not for everyone.
