When I notice my bread growing stale I butter each slice, cut them into little squares, and pop them babies into the toaster! Stale bread makes GREAT homemade crutons for salads! They're super yummy. I even snack on a few from time to time at my desk at work. Easy and efficient.
I also toast my old breast, those ones that got too dried already. It's really a good way to save on breads. In fact I was able to save a lot just from that in the past. I also put them in the freezer so they could last longer. What's important is that they will not be infested by the bacteria that cause their spoilage.
I never eat old breads as they can become very stale very easily. I think it is very important that you do not eat rotten or old breads as it can cause serious health issues. I also avoid food make out of old breads no matter how good they tastes.
Ouch akii, no one is saying to eat rotten food lol. Possibly old bread is not the best expression, I was referring to bread with one or two days, it's not exactly perfect to eat as it is, but it's still pretty good if we know how to treat it.
I tried this recipe yesterday and loved it. Slice up the bread if it's not sliced. I always prefer unsliced [bread]. Soak the bread in beaten eggs. Fry the bread. You'll get your tasty French toast.
Mmm, that sounds really good, fried bread with egg and you just eat them like that or do you add some sort of sauce after you fry it? I feel that if we add it sugar and cinnamon it has to be a really good dessert, maybe a little too dry?
Older stale bread makes an excellent french toast. It doesn't fall apart as easily when you want to get a little more of the seasoned egg wash. I wil also cut bread, particularly french bread into cubes and season them up with garlic, parm and romano cheese with a little oregano. I let the cubes dry out a little more and use them in all sorts of salads. Good call
Most of the times, I end up giving the old bread to mt dog and it happily eats it off. I have never liked the taste of old or frozen bread, hence prefer to give it to my dog. In my family none of the people like to eat old breads and hence we bring the required quantity of bread only.
Giving it to animals is a good use as well. I don't have dogs, but sometimes when I go to the park I take them to the pigeons or the ducks, the kids love to feed them the bread and the animals are quite happy as well of course.
