Extended warranties/insurances

Extended warranties are worthless. You just pay extra dollar for something you won't even use.

A quality product is a quality product. Period. Since warranties don't cover damage cause by clumsy handling, what you're actually paying for is getting a replacement if what you bought doesn't work as well as it's supposed to. All those appliances will work so it's best to go with a regular warranty and dispense with the extra cost of extended warranties.

 

In my opinion, they're worthless.

The extra cost for the warranty just isn't worth it. Most problems covered under warranties are going to come up within the 1 or 2 year span of the original warranty. Most magazines like Consumer Reports also say they're a total waste of money. Just stick with the original warranty.

 

I totally agree with the other folks that the warranties are worthless if you pay for them. But here every major company usually gives away for free a one-year warranty. I think this is more appealing advertisement to your product than trying to sell me one and make me think that you try to earn from any source possible

 

I don't really pay for extended warranties, I mean I don't see the point in them, I mean lets say you bought a phone and you extended its warranty up to 5 years, in some cases, in that long period of time, there will be a new model and you have to upgrade your phone, or, if you're really careful on how you use your phone, it can last up to 5 years without having any damage and the warranty will just die out. Its the same thing as paying for repairs.

 

Most of the electronics that I have bought come with warranty not insurance. I always buy something that has warranty so that I can have peace of mind that when this product becomes faulty within the warranty period then I can return it for free service or get a new one in return. It is a good to always keep your warranty cards you can never know when they can be handy.

 

I think they are worthless. They are often handled by third party companies who simply give the store a kickback for selling their warranties at the counter. There is a lot of red tape with them to redeem anything when necessary and most of the time, once you are done paying for the service itself, as well as the "processing" fees they tack on in the event you do need to use them, not to mention the replacement devices they provide, if any, are likely refurbished used stuff, possibly of lesser quality - you could have just rebought the device brand new again to replace it.

I bought one of these warranties for a cell phone I had purchased. The phone was damaged in an accident, so I filed a report to get a replacement under my extended warranty - not only did I pay $8 a month for this for nearly two years, but they wanted to charge me another $25 just to process my claim. So already we're talking about $225 I have soaked into this just for warranty fees, not including the money I paid for the phone itself. And what they gave me as a replacement phone was a used phone, not even the same brand or model of what I had previously. So I paid all this extra money for a used phone. I could have just taken that $225 and stashed it aside for a rainy day and bought a brand new shiny phone if my other one was lost or stolen.

 

I have never bought an extended warranty that I can remember. It just never seems like it would be worth it, and if I were going to bet some money like that, I'd get better odds at any casino.
