Hi. What flowers would you recommend for a birthday bouquet of a female boss? What do you think would be appropriate?
I would think anything but roses would be great. I think yellow roses are supposed to mean friendship, but I see any color as something you send to a spouse or girlfriend. I really like daisies. I'm sure any florist could put together a birthday arrangement for you. You could have other employees go in and buy it with you, but even if you sent it on your own, I think it's nice not inappropriate.
I agree with you. Roses, unless they are colorful ones (like yellow or even blue!), seem a bit intimate for anyone who isn't a very close friend, significant other, or family member. I think I personally associate it too much with love (rather than friendship) and it may seem inappropriate for the workplace and for a boss. I would ask for a florist for suggestions - but I think flowers like daisies are pretty. Carnations are also a great gift, too. They last a very long time, as long as they are in water and are very inexpensive but still look beautiful. I think a bouquet of mixed flowers would be very thoughtful.
I would go with a bouquet of mixed flowers myself. I also think of roses given by themselves, is an expression of love. If roses are in a mixed bouquet, they are fine. You could even get a small bouquet in a coffee cup for a nice gift for your boss. She can reuse the cup and it will cost you a lot less than a much larger bouquet.
