Are there any of you out there that are maybe away from your home country and have local food items or snacks shipped to you internationally? I'd like to taste some dishes and products from other countries and would like to know where it is best to start, so I am looking to you guys for tips and suggestions. I've recently had some high quality dishes shipped to me nationally and was impressed with how well they held up so I found myself trusting this process a lot more and would like to venture out into the international market if there's anything good out there that can be shipped internationally for a fair price I'd surely be up for it.

You need to be careful when shipping foods internationally. There are a lot of food items that are prohibited in each country. You need to check with your customs which one is allowed. Most of the time, meat, fish, fruits and vegetables are prohibited. I mean whether it's dried. They are very cautious when getting packages of these as this might cause diseases or any health problems. If you would watch some shows like about border patrol or customs related thing on tv, you would know exactly what I'm talking about as they show you there most of the food items they confiscate and throw directly to the bin.

Wow they have a reality show for everything now. Thanks very much for the tips, I highly appreciate it! At least I know what to look out for now. :) Also, I'll be looking for that show, it sounds very educational and interesting. Thanks! :)

Still looking for stories and suggestions though guys!

I would agree with this. You might have seen signs at the airport arrivals warning you not to bring various things into the country. They have lots of different rules for all sorts of produce. Sometimes something is completely forbidden and must never be brought into the country. In other cases, you are only allowed to bring in certain quantities (less than two kilograms, for example). This is not only to prevent disease among humans but also among plants. Some plant diseases do not exist in a country and the government do not want them to be brought in from abroad: they could destroy crops and cause a lot of economic problems. In other cases, they simply do not want people bringing too much of a product in from abroad because they want people to buy the items locally.

I have not tried purchasing food from other countries and have it shipped in my country for I am not so sure of the rules and regulations of our customs when it comes to that. I believe every country has different limitations when it comes to accepting shipment and deliveries from other countries and food is not spared from that. What I do, I ask a friend who frequently travels to buy for me instead. Like, I grew fond of kangaroo steak when I went to Australia and since there is none like that in my country, I craved for it so much. When my friend had to visit Australia, I asked him if he can purchase for me. He is always a darling and never said no.

My dad is a Maltese living in the UK and he regularly orders Maltese food from his homeland to be made, frozen and then sent to him. Last month we even had Maltese wine and beer sent over. :)
