I prefer water than any fizzy drinks. Apart from its cheap and litterally wont cost you anything its healthy in a way that there are no artificial flavours and tons of sugar that may add on someones weight.
In our most restaurants, tea will be served together with meals. But if you want any beverage, you need to order. For water, no need.
I always order water.. because I don drink alcoholic or any other beverage during a meal. I do agree that you get those looks.. but who cares.. my health comes first. I don't really care.. but I do tip the waiter well
I usually order a juice or a soda when dining out. But then I always ask for water afterwards if I don't have to pay for it.
I usually order soda because I don't go out to restaurants that often, so if I'm going to go out, I might as well enjoy a soda. Restaurants are getting slick now because I've been to a couple of restaurants where I ordered water and they brought me a bottled water that cost $3, and they didn't offer water by the glass. So they've figured out how to profit from the water drinkers.
My sister suggested I do that since the price of beverages at restaurants are just too high nowadays compared to what they really cost. She also observed that by drinking water that the restaurant provides for free your bill is substantially cut as compared to what you'd normally pay. In my situation with kids in tow and a hubby, the cost of beverages really adds up. I also have a friend who works for a food kiosk at a mall and he said that they make more money profit wise on beverages than on the donuts they sell.
The profit margin on beverages especially soda is crazy high. Fast food places get the soda practically for pennies. It's the cup that's expensive. That's why some places are charging you for the cup or give you a different water cup. I never get strange looks when I order water. It's very common in my area. When I went to go visit a family member in the South (US) was the only time I got strange looks. I also got strange looks when I ordered regular tea, not sweet tea.
I always take water when I'm out eating. I don't drink soda or milk. I occasionally order a beer here and there, when I have the money.
I always just order water. But it isn't necessarily just because of the cost. I also just don't drink much else. If I don't just ask for water, I will get a herbal tea or black coffee. But I don't drink pop or juice so it isn't even tempting and feels wasteful. But I have never noticed a waitress make a face or anything.
I go to a lot of pubs and they are happy to hand over free tap water with some ice in it if you buy drinks as well.
To be honest i only take my family out to eat at a restaurant once in a blue moon. But when we do go out to eat we do usally order sodas even if they are about 1.75. The good thing about it is that once you order the drinks they most likely are fre re-fills. Alchol is just way to expensive to order on the other hand. If you buy a bottle of Budweiser at ur local Applebee's your paying about five dollars. I would much rather spend eight dollars and get my self a six pack.
I also always order water when I go out to eat for many reasons. First of all, it is the much healthier option than soda. I even recently started bringing in my own water because the one that is served in restaurants is from the tap which I don't feel so comfortable with drinking anymore.
The restaurants can be cheeky. I've ordered water a number of times and the waiter returned with bottled water. I tell the waiter I don't want bottled water, I want a glass of water from the tap. They never like it, haha.
I might order a glass of wine or martini if I am in the mood but other than that I only get water. I don't drink pop or any of that crap so the decision is easy, and my meal is cheaper! Technically you should be drinking water with your meal anyways. I have never received any flak for this either.
I have met this problem before. Apparently they don't have a price for a glass of water from the tap but they can bill you for a bottle of water. Nowadays, though, many places bill you even for a glass of plain water.
I honestly would purchase seltzer water, as I gave up soda about a year ago. I drink a lot of water, but I can't seem to bring myself to drink the "free water" in restaurants. The last time I tried, the water didn't taste good at all. I just couldn't do it. I have a water filter at home, so I can taste the difference when water isn't filtered.
Actually I'm not used to have water or juice for my meal. I like to have some soup to instead of them. But alcohol is another thing. hah
