Do you use hand sanitizers regularly? I am always using the computer, so my tells me not to wash my hands immediately after because it's bad. So, I always have a Handy sanitizer with me. I heard somewhere though that this does not really rids the hands of germs/bacteria. What is your take on this?
I use them after I visit the doctors office but that is about it. I don't really like the smell of it. I do think that it works for the most part, though. I have heard that over sanitizing yourself/house too often will lead to more infections. Is there any truth to it?
I think hand sanitizers just tend to spread the bacteria because you don't really rinse them off, it still stays and dries on your hand. So I'm sure the germs will still be there as compared to washing your hands with running water. Even specialists don't advise hand sanitizers to replace washing with soap and water. More info here:Log In And yes, I read that too much sanitizing and cleaning is actually bad.
I don't use hand sanitizers too often. I prefer to just wash my hands after petting my dog, or when cooking or touching anything germy. I don't feel clean after using hand sanitizer because you don't really wash off whatever you touched that has germs. At least with soap and water, you know that your hands are clean.
We use hand sanitizers all the time. I have 4 kids and they are constantly touching everything. We are not always near a sink for them to wash their hands the old fashioned way so this is the next best thing. Especially if we are in a place like an amusement park where it can be germ heaven ! Yuck!! The kids get tired of me reminding them to wash their hands so this is sometimes easier for them as well. Danyel
Hand sanitizers are useful when you are out and you can't wash your hands, like touching animals, shaking hands, touching doorhandles and eating a sandwich outside. They can be drying, so I only use a small amount and then a wet wipe as well, but good old fashioned soap and hot water is the best. It's a good temporary quick cleanse, but shouldn't be used instead of washing.
Hmmm, I haven't really heard the bit about hand sanitizer not actually getting rid of the germs. I've seen guarantees on most of them that they get rid of up to 99% of bacteria/germs and all of that "bad stuff". We don't always have an opportunity to access a sink or soap, to actually go and physically wash our hands, so I think that that fact makes the use of hand sanitizer all the more convenient. I love to have a good bottle of hand sanitizer around as well, as I not only find it to be convenient when I need to clean my hands and can't access the sink and soap, but it literally dries in about seconds! I'd say seek out those hand sanitizers that are made by the most reliable brands in terms of germ-killing soaps, like Protex and others like that. I'm gonna continue using my hand sanitizer!
I always have a small bottle of Dettol in my handbag wherever I go. My boyfriend, who works in a hospital, even has his very own, home-made alcohol spray bottle that he never leaves at home. We both are forever aware of germs, especially since I picked up a nasty parasite last year that had a very detrimental effect on my health.
I am not sure but I know that if you over sanitize or wash your hands too much you can end up with very bad/dry skin. That's what happened to my mom's hands. She used to have to wash her hands all the time and ended up with aging hands very quickly. I fear I'll be the same way because I wash my hands constantly and when I can't I use sanitizer but I don't feel good not doing it.
I don't use them at all, but I think they are a handy tool. I usually just get some off of other people because nowadays almost everyone has some. As form he results, I'm not really all that sure that they do have an effect, but I am guessing that it at least helps a bit in keeping your hands clean, even though I'm sure that even the manufacturers would admit that it's still no substitute for actual washing.
I haven't used hand sanitizer in years. However, this past weekend, I found an old pump bottle in a closet. It was never used. Since, I was cleaning out my closet and getting ready to hang up fall jackets, I may as well begin using it. It was the Walgreen brand that used to cost only $4.00. It leaves an alcohol type scent. I do not like that scent but I live alone. I would not offend anybody smelling like alcohol.
I use it often, but that doesn't mean that I don't wash my hand anymore. I agree that washing hands the traditional way still can't be beaten when it comes to cleaning bacteria.
I carry a couple of bottles of hand sanitizers in my purse. They are pretty handy. I don't use them excessively because they tend to dry out my hands even though I use hand lotion. I use the hand sanitizers in a pinch when I'm near not a restroom or when the restroom doesn't have any soap.
I almost never use hand sanitizers and just prefer to wash my hands with soap when needed. I don't like how my hands feel after using them and the smell isn't all that great either. I do think they actually work and clean your hands, but it's not a replacement for using soap and water in my eyes.
My husband is on immunosuppressant medication, so we have to be extra careful about that kind of thing- we use hand sanitizer quite a bit. It gets rid of most things, but there are certain things that it won't get rid of, which is why after the bathroom and if your hands are ever visibly messy, you should go for soap and water instead.
I'm not a huge hand sanitizer fan as I prefer to wash my hands. In a pinch hand sanitizers work. My favorites are Burt's Bees and The Body Shop. I like Burt's Bees because I think the spray application is very handy. I like The Body Shop because of the selection of fragrances. Both brands feel like they get my hands clean and aren't super drying.
I do use a hand sanitizer most often when I am out the house, when I am in work or just going out with my friends. I think they are just effective in getting rid of the bacteria, though they may not be able to get rid the bacteria at a hundred percent rate, they still do at a pretty good percentage rate. So I still strongly think that it's still advisable to use them. After all, wash rooms are not ever time close to where we are.
I think it is actually better to use hand sanitizer as a preventative measure. They were originally used by nurses who made home visits where it may not have been appropriate for them to enter other areas of the home to wash their hands for home visits. We use hand sanitizer before going into a situation where we are going to have to shake a lot of hands. The number one cause for catching colds is through hand contact. Water and soap is best, but there are occasions when a little alcohol definitely can't hurt.
I never use hand sanitizer, it is too hard on my skin. I don't think it is very effective either because there is no water to flush away the germs that got missed. Sanitizing products like that never actually get all the germs, so they are actually helping promote the development of resistant super germs. I don't want to be a part of that if I can help it. It's better for you and the environment if you just wash your hands with plain old soap and water and rinse thoroughly. They will be just as clean if not cleaner and you didn't have to kill any germs, just wash them down the drain.
I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer at my desk. If I ever sneeze or cough I always squirt a bit onto my hands to I don't infect my keyboard or mouse. Having a small bottle on me makes me feel less conscious around my other office coworkers since I have to handle files and other public items quite often.
