I've visited China last year, and I didn't seem to have a problem ordering anything online.
I ordered a keyboard once, and it took longer than expected, but overall, it's basically the same as American shipping.

I've bought products in China and from China before. In China, they tried to increase the price for anyone non-Chinese, thinking we had money. Both places the quality was pretty bad. Things stopped working quickly or broke easily, particularly watches.

So when you select items on taobao, you must have an eye to judge.

Yep, customer reviews and satisfaction is very important. You must buy something from a trusted seller with 4-5 stars, or else something will be wrong.

I would agree that Chinese watches do break down quite easily and they can be a problem especially if you sell them to other people who would be quick to conclude that you are trying to steal from them by selling them knock offs :(

Now that's usually the most tricky part, in that, some businesses that are just starting out could have little to no review but yet they offer very competitive prices, plus you get to receive first class customer service but since they don't have 5 stars, people tend to shy away from them.

Definitely a big problem today on sites like eBay. Getting reviews are pretty hard especially if you're starting off. Probably your best bet to get at least some vouches is to ask your friends or family to buy or write some good reviews about you. I would buy people's products or whatever they are selling if they advertise it well, like giving descriptive information instead of useless things I don't need to know.
