I have often heard it said that you can save money by going with high deductible health insurance. When you get a bill, you just ask the hospital to give you the negotiated rate for your insurance carrier after they send the bill through them. Does anybody think that this is a good idea?
The insurance carrier will send you an Explanation of Benefits or something similar. It will tell you how much is applied to the deductible. The negotiated rate will be applied to the deductible...at least at all the medical insurance companies were I have worked
