There are some people who prefer to have gardeners come in and take care of their garden for them, like mowing the lawn, pulling up weeds and cutting back plants. They may have this done on a monthly basis. However, there are others who prefer to take care of their garden themselves. Not only does this save them money, but they just enjoy the gardening experience. They see gardening as a kind of hobby.

Years ago we used to have gardeners come in and clean up our surroundings, but because of budget constraints this is now a thing of the past.

So do you do your own gardening or do you hire someone else to do it?

It takes all the umph I have available to take care of my own yard. Gardening is hard work. It's great exercise too, but I would not want to do it for a living. Right now my periwinkles are sill in their little 6 packs waiting to be planted. Sheesh!

My husband is a gardener who tends the plants in our small garden around the house. Most of our plants are edibles - vegetables and fruits. But it's not really the harvest but the joy of gardening that my husband gets from his endeavor. However, when it is planting season and he wanted to plant a crop, say corn, he would hire a hand to prepare the plot. It's not easy to dig and filter the soil for big stones and trash so he spends for a hired hand.

My parents do love gardening, but due to ill health some older people do need gardeners to help them as it can become dangerous. My father tried to do the things he used to do, and I had to stop him in case he injured himself, especially using a saw to chop branches.

It is a skill too, because it requires a good eye to know what to cut and where.

My dad has a garden, and not once did he hire a gardener to maintain it. He maintained his plants all by himself. But when it comes to trimming the weeds in our backyard and in our front yard, he hires someone to trim them on a regular basis.

For me the reason I started gardening in the first place is to save money on food. If I were to hire a gardener then that would cancel out the savings I would have made and I'd be better off without that garden in the first place. That's why I never would hire a gardener and is a good reason why no one else should hire a gardener unless you aren't interested in saving money, that is [because gardening is easy].

I only hire gardeners for a proper land mowing. Wild grass growth here is insane, with a few hours of rainfall they grow a lot after a couple days. The intense green is certainly pleasant to see but they are pretty much invasive and steal the nourishment to other plants. And since there are a lot, the msot efficient way to get rid of them is contract a specialist in brush cutting and
    grass trimmer handling.
