How many times to we hang out with friends at shopping centers? And how dangerous is that? Almost every single time I go to the shopping center I end up buying something I didn't plan, so I think I am better off shopping center unless I really need to buy something. Do you handle them well? :)

I stay away from shopping centers if I don't intend on buying something, because I get the urge to buy something when I'm in there and I see something I really like. I have to keep telling myself that as much as I like it, I can't buy it at the moment. I mean I have other expenses to worry about than picking up something I see and want. If you're stern with yourself, you'll do better to resist impulse spending. If you're with friends that might also add onto the urge of wanting to purchase something like a game, then it'll be even harder.

I don't like shopping centers too much because I enjoy open spaces, but sometimes I go mostly when I need to buy with the wife and kids, it's very rare for me to go alone unless I'm going to the movies. If you're going with friends it's though yes, you'll end up buying!

To be honest, I can't stand shopping centres. I only go there when I really need something. I get irritated by all the noise and bright lights, the hassle all around. I prefer to shop online whenever possible or go to selected stores outside malls. I never have a problem with buying things that I don't need. If I can, I usually send my boyfriend shopping, which he enjoys a lot more than I do. :)

They are not dangerous if you keep a handy dandy list on you. Promise yourself that the necessities on that list are the only things that you will buy, it is the best way to avoid getting suckered into deals that you really don't need. I find that if you pay in cash, you will save a bit of money. Something about swiping a card really makes the customer forget how much they are actually spending.

I like shopping centres, when they aren't packed to the brim. I don't mind meeting with friends and socialising at a shopping centre. I could easily go for lunch and avoid all the shops. I think self restraint needs to be exercised when there is so much temptation around.

I usually walk around shopping centers as a leisure activity. I don't get tempted to buy anything besides food because half of the stores are clothing stores for women. Malls are some of my favorite places to go, especially during less crowded hours.

I'm usually not tempted either because I am not a great shopper, I am more of a saver, but I do love sports equipment, that's the only thing that might tempt me, so it's better if I keep away... Even with food you're spending money mistyimi.

I thought you were referring to "dangerous" in the sense like a threat to your life, like bombs planted by terrorists in there for example, lol. Anyway, I can certainly handle them well, since I can stay in there and not spend at all unless I'm hungry or thirsty. But when it comes to buying items that I don't need, I can control myself really well in that area.

I got confused for a second there. When you said 'Dangerous' i thought you meant it as the actual meaning of the word but i guess not. Anyways, i don't go to shopping centers that much anymore. I hate really all the walking and almost every time i go to shopping centers i end up hating going there in the first place because my feet would hurt so much. I also think it's too crowded and i just hate all the hustle and the bustle of the public place. I prefer buying things online nowadays but if there are things i can't find online, i have no choice but to personally go to shopping centers which i really don't like to do. ;(

LOL I thought the exact same thing. It made me think of this particular shopping center that I know of where there are always drug dealers, pan handling addicts, homeless people and thieves lurking about. But the way you guys are talking about a so-called "shopping center", I must have a different definition than you do of what a shopping center is. To me a shopping center is a really long building with a bunch of different stores in it all in a row, like a Kroger's, a Chinese restaurant, a Gamestop, a Dollar Store, an Eye Doctor, a smoke shop, etc. What it sounds like you guys are talking about is a shopping mall. Could someone please clear this up for me? I know in different regions they have different names for things. Like what we call grilling out, a lot of people call barbecuing.

Unfortunately recently here in my country a big group of young people (around 200 of them) caused chaos in one of our malls, but this is not common to happen. Either cases, my wife loves the mall so we end up there every once in a while and I can't recall the last time we went there and didn't bought something, so for me the mall means expense.

I love going to the shopping center, but I understand what you mean about it being dangerous to your wallet, even if I can convince myself that there's nothing that I need to buy and I'm just going for a stroll, I know that I'll end up picking something up. The proof of that is that if I don't have any money to spend I'll not even go at all.

I never have time to hang out. Anywhere. So hanging around places where I'd spend money because I see something I like is something which is unlikely to happen. I never go out to window shop [thanks to my home being a little distance away from town and other responsibilities] so if I'm going somewhere it'll be with the sole purpose of buying something.

As a matter of fact, the small town I live in has no malls because [they'd make no money] . . . there aren't many people living here.

So that is a totally different reality from mine Denis. I too love the peace and quiet away from shopping, but I end up there one time and another, just this weekend bought some new sneakers for my kid, they ruin them so fast!

Sadly, I am addicted to shopping centers especially those that sell products at super low prices. I like going alone though because I don't need to worry about my friends getting tired from walking for a long time. I can also pick whatever I want without consulting other people! :p

Addiction to shopping centers is really one of the worse enemies of your wallet... You have to note that even if the products are at super low prices you are spending money and you should ask yourself, do I really need this or am I buying just because it's cheap?
