Maybe you only spent a 20 here or a 20 there or for Christmas you shelled out 60 bucks for an exclusive on the PS3, but have you considered what you may have spent on games/gaming overall? I did this recently and about died. Even being cheaper then Scrooge McDuck I have somehow spent over a grand and a half in systems, games, accessories, and paying for stuff like Xbox Live. I am kind of appalled until I realize that I don't play WOW or buy most of my games new or pay out for a gaming computer, etc. Of course then I realized that other people must spend 2 or 3 times what I do without thinking about - thus this question: how much have you spent?

I guess I've spent about $2,000 with the consoles included. That's a rough estimate because I'm not cheap and I don't really worry about how much I've spent on video games. I don't think it's any more or less than the money that I've spent for other things that I like to do.

Oh geez, I have been spending money on games and consoles since the 1980's so by now I am sure it is a fortune. Considering I have four grown children, I have bought multiple consoles at the same time as well as duplicate copies of games. I really have no clue as to how much I have spent over the years. I would be pretty sure that it would easily be over $10,000!

With Consoles included? I spent around...o_O...$5000?! This doesn't include any computer upgrades, only console games and systems. Wow, I'm pretty sure when all the cash I spent adds up it really will be around that number. I used to have many games and consoles. I once burned at least $1500 worth of games. Money is sparse, but that is that. How about how much I spent on all of those DVD movies? ;)

I have a Xbox 360 and I spent around $1500 on games and console accessories. I think the Xbox 360 is a great investment, but it's so expensive!

Even though I haven't been buying any games or game related accessories lately I'm pretty sure that I've shelled out a few thousand dollars already. I recall buying the Playstation 2 ages ago (that was the first console I bought myself) and then there was the XBox as well as various handheld systems. Luckily, I haven't had to shell out any money for these newer consoles since my brother already did that. I also blame myself for not being able to control myself and having to buy games when they first come out instead of waiting to get a used copy.

I think in total I may have spent little over 2,000 alone on games. Back when I had a PS2, games would go for about 15$-30$ a pop depending what kind of game it was. It wasn't until I got a Xbox360 is where I really found out how much games are really costing now. When I go to the game store and look at the games fo the Xbox360 system, their starting price is 40$ and up. Thank goodness I gave my system to my nephew.

Actually, nothing. I've never bought a video game in my life except for a few gifts. That may change in the future, though.

Maybe about $500? That was when I was still addicted to a local online game here in my country. Every week, I buy cards so that I can train rigorously with my friends. Thinking back, I could have used the money for online investments rather than spending it on a game that I eventually quit from.

I didn't count how much I've spent for ipadd games. Its actually easy to get tempted when you see games are just around $5 compare to buying cartridges back then. Plus the money spent on buying what you need to achieve in the games. iPad can be more expensive when you spend more on online or zennies in games.

I've never actually really thought about adding up all that I have spent on games but thanks to this thread, I now realise that almost 3000 bucks worth of gaming related stuff sits in my room! My Playstation 3 itself cost me a bomb when I got it because it was the period when it was first released and not to mention that the shop I got it from wasn't exactly sticking to the recommended retail price. Over the few years as my collection of games grow, the amount I spend also keeps growing! Just imagine how much money I would have saved if I didn't get the PS3 to begin with! But I must say that my PS3 has brought me loads of joy over the years and if I have to say it, I would say that the money spent was well worth it!

Wow, I actually have no idea. I buy games rarely, but for at least 10 years now. So I guess I must have spent at least 3000 over all the years.. But oh well, better than wasting it on alcohol and smokes, isn't it? :D

Back in the 90's I was a big gamer, I had a huge library of Genesis games plus all the attachments (Sega CD, 32x, etc). I dropped a few grand on all of that. I sold it all at a store that buys used games, and only got like $200 for it. What a waste of money.

I do play WoW, so I have spent a nice chunk each time a new expansion comes out. I pay the monthly fee, but I also don't go out to the movies or anything, so it's pretty much my entire "entertainment budget."

I bought Guild Wars 2, too. Beyond that, though, I occasionally buy some Steam games that are only a couple bucks at a time.

Man, that's a terrible waste! You should have sold it on eBay, they go for way higher there - especially Sega CD. The game shops usually only give you small fraction of whatever they will sell it for, it's never a good option to sell stuff there..

Sure, but did you enjoy the money spent? And would those investments have actually paid off? There is no place for regrets only lessons to move forward from. Really though it can't be any worse then all the Yu-gi-oh cards I just had to have all those years ago. Two thousand cards which come out to more then I'd really like to admit.

Exactly, it is much easier to justify these kinds of things if you recall that the money could have been spent on worse. Drugs, gambling, streetwalkers, and mountains of porn come to mind. Better a video game involving drugs, gambling, streetwalkers, porn, and violence then actual real life commodities.

Haha, no kidding :D Plus, I have a nice, sentimental relationship to most of my games, because it reminds me of the simpler times. :D
