Because it's 1100W it heats quickly and will boil water quickly. There is a slight smell when you turn it on, but you can just turn it onto the highest setting and sit it outside for about 10-15 minutes. You'll only have to do this the first time. After, the smell isn't as strong. Rather unnoticeable. MUST let it cool down because it gets HOT! But that's kind of obvious. The only thing is that the cable is only about a foot or so long.
