I am looking into buying a Kindle but have had mixed reviews about it from my friends with some saying they love it, but others saying that they did not like the transition between books and an electronic screen. So in this thread if you could please discuss your opinions and experiences of this gadget in question. Also, as an extra what model would you recommend? Thanks
I found the transition was tough. So tough that I returned my e-reader. That was 3 or so years ago. I'm sure the technology has improved some. I guess I would suggest you think about: - how attached you are to physical books, magazines and newspapers -how much you travel (an e-reader is very useful for travel) -how many books you will read that are in the public domain (ie. Free) -whats other uses you can put your e-reader to Hope this helps a little.
If you are a casual reader, I think that the Kindle is probably not a worthwhile investment. You can get a tablet that has more functionality in other areas (browsing the web, watching movies etc.). However, if you love reading and don't mind reading on the screen instead of a book, you might enjoy it. One problem with the kindle is that you can't read in the dark without a light. However, Amazon is releasing something called a kindle Paperwhite that can supposedly be read in the dark. I don't know if it is a worthwhile investment or not.
is kindle only for ebook? I thought I saw someone browsing the internet using the kindle. I was expecting to actually buy one since it a lot inexpensive than having an ipad or iphone. if its only for ebook then this changes y mind lol
In my view you get a kindle if you intend to read books and magazine and not do much else. If you want to do all sort of other things then it would be best to get a tablet that can read ebooks. If cost is a factor for you then a Kindle would be you best best as they do not really cost that much.
A friend of mine who reads a lot and divides her time between the UK and Spain loves her Kindle, because she can load it with books for her holiday and it's easily portable. Personally, I prefer to read a book and turn the pages, although I do have an e-reader programme on my laptop. As others have said, a tablet may be a better investment, as it's more versatile.
I've also been looking at purchasing a Kindle, but the cons outweigh the pros, especially the cost. I don't understand why ebooks are expensive as they are. The only positive thing when it relates to books is that they have thousands of fiction books from before the 1920s are free and these fiction books are the ones I mostly read.
There is nothing wrong with a Kindle - the price however is a bit steep. That said you can surf the web, read books and magazines, listen to music, and play at least a few games on there. Of course, you can get a Nook that does the same thing, but which may be somewhat cheaper. I have a Nook and have been fairly pleased with it - the more so as I have been able to load it with scores of bootlegged books plus the many out of print freebies. Also here are the specs for the Amazon Kindle Fire - Stunning Color Touchscreen Movies, magazines and children's books come alive on a 7" vibrant color touchscreen that delivers 16 million colors in high resolution. Kindle Fire uses IPS (in-plane switching) technology - similar technology to that used on the iPad - for an extra-wide viewing angle, perfect for sharing your screen with others. Beautifully Simple and Easy to Use Designed from the ground up, Kindle Fire's simple, intuitive interface puts the content you love at your fingertips - spin effortlessly through your recent titles and websites straight from the home screen. Whether you are in the mood to watch, read, listen, play or browse, you can get to all your favorite content with a single touch. It's that simple. Here is a smaller one :Log In
The Kindle being a worthwhile investment depends squarely on the purpose for which it was purchased for. If for instance, one buys a Kindle with the hopes of using it also a tablet then that is a poor investment I must say, since it can't do most of the tasks a basic tablet can do. But if bought for reading E-books, then it is the perfect thing to go for!
Well from the description I found not all Kindles are created equal and at least some of them do what most people use tablets for - entertainment. Movies, books, magazines, games, and internet surfing - isn't that generally what the point of tablets is? Heck, whose to say it doesn't also take apps?
No, a kindle is not a worthwhile investment. It is a worthwhile entertainment expense and is something you will probably use for a while and can find a lot of benefit from it...but it is not an investment and should not be treated that way.
