My mom did this too but and I did too for some time but nowadays none of us do it anymore because we've lost patience for it. Also it's partly because I think ripping through the gift wrapping is part of the fun and when I try and be careful with the wrapping it just doesn't feel as good. I get a lot more gift wrapped gifts now though as most I get are in gift bags and I do keep those for reuse.
